I prefer to fish weightless senkos on M casting gear, but spinning gear is just more efficient.  One of the best senko rod I ever had was a 7' M MF Penn Prion rod I got for Xmas when I was 11yo.

It wasnt the most sensitive rod, but action wise it was perfect.  The softer tip combine with a semi stout midsection allowed me to cast a 4" senko about 100' in less then ideal conditions.  The midsection and lower end of the rod had plenty of power to set the hook at the end of a long cast without having to swing for the fences.  Although I haven't been scouring the earth, I haven't really come across another rod quite like it.  I think the graphite was of a lower quality, which made the action a little softer.  The power was kind of unique as well, compared to most of the current M powers today.  It was great with artificials from 1/4-3/4, but did well with bucktails to 1oz, kind of like an inshore M+ or MedMH.

A Senko with hook weighs over 3/8 oz. I use the same Mh/F rods that I use to throw other Texas rigs and jigs on.

Which is about dead-center of my Mojo M/F rod's rating - 3/16-5/8.

For 4 inch senkos/dingers I use a 7/0 fenwick medium ./ F

For 5 inch I use a 6.6 ugly stik medium.

For 6 inch I use a 7.0 lightning rod Medium/heavy./F

Works for me…

Yeah I wouldn’t call a senko bfs. They are heavy.

Nor would I. Was it my post you were referring to?  I'm just fishing with a reel that has the letters "BFS' painted on the side of it.

If I was in to bfs and had bfs gear I would probably throw bfs tackle on It. Not a senko.

Have you fished with a Curado BFS?

Shimano rates the Curado BFS line capacities referencing 8 lb mono and 15 lb braid, which is about the range I would think it would excel at. Totally appropriate for throwing a WW Senko and I wouldn't call that BFS, but since they did paint those letters on the side of it, I try not to let it bother me or prevent me from using it for what we have called finesse fishing since the 80's.

It’s interesting how some automatically think wacky and spinning setup when they hear weightless senko.

I think t-rigged with a casting setup. I like the power to set the hook and the 15lb line to pull them out.

I only wacky with finesse worms in the summer for suspended fish. Not my favorite way to fish.

The OP first post literally asked about dedicated weightless WACKY senko rod! LOL! ??

For what it's worth,... For texas rigged, I use an older Fenwick Techna AV 7' medium rated 1/4 - 1oz with an old Shimano Scorpion Metanium MG7 reel. Light reel on a light sensitive rod,... Works well for me!

I plan on using my 7’1” mhxf legend tournament casting more for 5” senkos this year. I like a 7’ m spinning rod for skipping wacky rigs and a 7’4” h frog rod for heavy cover, especially when using a 6” senko.

For open water, a 2 power Loomis MBR and 10lb Sniper Fluoro.  If I am fishing them in light cover, I use the same combo but worry more.

It just goes to show you, doesn't it?  Replies vary from ML to MH.  Obviously, rod selections are personal.

I use a ML/F 6'10" Abu Garcia Veritas and Zata spinning reel for weightless T-rigs and wacky worms.  It's a bit stiff for a ML, but not quite up to a full medium, and I find it the perfect balance of hook setting power and flex for casting distance.  My other ML rods would be too whippy, but my other medium rods would be too stiff.  I bet a St. Croix ML would also be about perfect as they tend to run a bit stronger as well.

An old GLX 782c MBR.  I had the chunky factory guides replaced with much smaller Recoils and it's made a great rod even better.

yeh I am mainly wanting to see if most are using spinning or casting. I was watching redcrest this past weekend and several were throwing wacky rigs. And there was a combo of spinning and casting there as well

"No sinker worm" is classic bfs. Maybe not a big senko but a 4" to 5" bait is within the wheelhouse of a ml bfs rod although I prefer a medium for the 5".

It’s not the Senko weight you should be using spinning it’s the free fall swimming  motion of the Senko that is important.

My current rod is SC Victory 7’3” MXF with Shimsno Vanford 2500, line going to give Fins 15 # spin Braid w/ 10# Sniper FC another try. The floating braid makes a good strike indicator as much as I dislike braid/FC leader. Hook size 1 Owner Jungle Wacky.
