I misspoke but I believe, it I interpreted his post correctly, pressured fishing clarified. I think it’s ideal to hold the rod in your dominant hand. I am right handed but I use a left handed retrieve. I don’t have to switch hands after a cast and I have much better coordination in my right hand to work lures. I should have said make sure he gets a reel that is the opposite of his dominant hand. Probably not that big of a deal but I’m definitely glad that’s how I learned to fish. 1 Quote

The first time out I didn’t plan ahead and we just used my ultralight combo which is a 7’6” ultralight with a stradic on it…. I had my dad dig out my old zebco 33 the next time they visited. This past year we bought her her own rod for her birthday and it was great. The line is cheap, but once you cast it out and give it a little stretch the whole thing will cast a lot better than your think. It’s durable as anything and for $10 it doesn’t matter if he likes it forever. It’s the zebco dock demon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XW3FWFF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 I second the Zebco Dock Demon. My son at 2 or 3 went through 1 or 2 of the superhero type closed face setups. They were certainly fine, but the Dock Demon is just a nicer reel in general and the whole setup is way tougher than the superhero ones you find at Walmart. He's caught dozens of sunfish and many bass up to around 12" on it without issue. He's since graduated to my old Pflueger President (30 size) and Berkeley Lighting rod, which I also highly recommend for a kid that can handle a spinning reel. Quote
