Pike and other esox are abundant in most waters I fish. I can’t speak for snakeheads, but I can tell you from experience that pike can easily saw through taught braid, but have trouble cutting through thick nylon or fluoro. I still don’t use a leader for frog fishing, but for some techniques bite-offs are a main reason I use leaders. Another main one is abrasion resistance around rocks and logs. Quote

Fishin Dad Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I use 50lb. Straight braid. Trying Viscous “No Fade” braid this year. I do agree that pike can and do saw off braid at times, but I have been pretty lucky landing them while frog fishing. If I am fishing a Texas rig with braid (in weeds), I seem to lose A Lot more rigs to pike on braid. I think it is because they get it better with that set up. 1 Quote

While my frog/toad rig is straight braid, my general pitching rig is 40# 832 with 20# FC leader while my heavy pitch/punch rig is 50# 832 with 20# FC leader. 1 Quote

I am pretty much a straight fluoro with most of my pitching, but in the MILF, I like straight braid. I am not against leaders at all as all of my spinning rigs use an FG knot. I just like straight braid in the thick stuff. Unfortunately, the pike like the thick stuff too. 1 Quote
Justbass11 Posted March 12, 2023 Author Posted March 12, 2023 I went with 832 #50, for the frog rod and thanks for the input 1 Quote
