Not that you need my permission to do so, but it's your money to spend however you want  to. The joy of fishing means different things to different people.

Many years ago, I pictured Lake Texoma as a stark cold and windy pit of despair. Not sure why I had that image in my mind, but I did. Then I went there. It was a beautiful lake, full of life and fish. It was a little cold and we had rain off and on, but we fished from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and caught over 100 fish. Mostly on slabs, poppers and crankbaits. Loved it and can't wait to go back.

And make sure you stay on the right section of the lake. The 'line' varies and it might be unpleasant to get caught on the wrong side of the channel. Have fun and be safe.

not sure where you were going with your first sentence. :D

but I go to Texoma to spend time with my brother and friends.  sitting around a campfire, poking at it with a stick is about the only time I can get my younger brother to open up to me and tell me how he is doing.  he has had some changes lately.  the lake is pretty awesome and the stripers a fun to catch.  I'm gonna mix it up with a med power spinning and my 2500 reels to see how far I can cast from the shore.  I bought some new lures to try.  I bought fistfuls of them to hand out to the group.  Japan topwaters.

I was looking at the p5 rods last year, I am still doing my business locally at a shop. I have not ordered anything off online yet lol. My choices that they had ended up with me going with 2 of the orochi series, perfect pitch, launcher.

I will say that it was not really a matter of the money, it’s just that the models of p5 rods that they had in stock were not what I was looking for.

I find that as my collection grows I get very extremely picky with what I want from my gear. Wether it’s action of a rod or power how the rod feels my interpretation of what I truly think the action or power of the rod is. I have gotten really good at picking my rods and know exactly what I am looking for.

my local shop has all sorts of stuff from rods and lures, reels I couldn’t ask for more. But in my search it’s hard to find the right ones, that’s why cost or warranty doesn’t really matter to me. I say research the rods for your purposes and go for it, there nothing more than tools we use to enjoy our passion. Good luck and choose wisely, you can never go wrong with megabass.

I fish about 45mins S of Kalamazoo and my local shop has had a pretty decent selection of p5's over the last year or two.  DM if you want me to see if they're holding the models you're interested in.

there is ZERO logic here.  i am doing perfectly fine with my very pedestrian collection of rods.  not once can i recall a bass i lost (that i know of) where i can say, "dang it!  if i only had  a P5: that bass would be mine!"  or was that a tick?  is that tick a bass?  i feel i dont miss many bites.

i kayak fish, so i would probably vomit and have to be put on suicide watch if i flip and lose four-digit$ of fishing rods.  it would hurt, hurt deeply. :D

but dang it if i dont want to experience first class fishing rods.  i would get two.  a casting and a spinning.  i have a Levante, and a Triza and if that is any indication..the P5 is definately rarified air for me.  i spent kidney money on binoculars and now i could never ever go back.  i imagine the same would happen with a P5.

i would plunk down some cash now, but i put too much money into my Amazon River fishing trip.  it aint happeing 2023.  maybe for Christmas i can swing ONE.  :D

Having flipped my kayak and experienced the nausea and self-hatred of losing a $500 combo, I hear you. I now use pool noodle sections to avoid a repeat occurrence. Which I hate because the line often binds on the noodle. So I find myself often leaving my high-end rods at home while I kayak. So, what’s the point? I’m gonna get a thinner solution to rod savers or use leashes. Maybe that will help. Or I’ll just keep yakking with my $80 Falcon HDs.

Have to say, though, after watching a recent Hookup Tackle vid on best Megabass rods for “junk fishing”—meaning, best rods in each line for multiple fishing techniques so you get the most bang for your buck—I am now LUSTING after a P5 Dark Sleeper or Mad Bull. The bait monkey is back…

I went to the hardware store and bought that foam tubing that plumbers wrap outdoor water lines with.  it is smaller in diameter.  I am TRAINING myself to remember to pull it off when I pick that rod to fish with, and put it back on when I stuff it into the rod holder for storage.  the only one that will sink if I flip is the one I am fishing with..   I having made it muscle memory yet, but I have all year.

I'm a fool for dropshoting.  heavier stuff and I always tex rig my baits.  and throw weightless stuff.  I think the Windbuster is my jam...and the MadBull.  grrrrr...talk about champagne taste with a beer budget.

next year...next year.

I love megabass rods, still am yet to make the P5 jump… the idea of being on the kayak and dropping one…

I love my Orochi XXs, they are probably the prettiest rod I own.

What helps me is knowing that I catch more fish on my cheaper rods.  Not because the rods are cheaper or even better (they're definitely not), but because I do better with moving baits, and don't feel the need to spend as much on a rod for moving baits.  Anyway, it proves to me that I still haven't achieved that skill level yet where I actually NEED better rods to catch more fish.  In other words, my cheap rods aren't what's holding me back, yet.  Plus, the law of diminishing returns tells me that I might be a tiny bit disappointed.  Jumping from $30 rods to $130 rods was pretty eye opening.  I don't think I can replicate that level of improvement, even with a $1,300 rod.

But, there's nothing wrong with wanting nice things.  Especially when talking about the tools of the hobby you're passionate about.  You will enjoy them.  And everyone deserves a few nice things in their life.  And a bit of delayed gratification will make the payoff feel even sweeter!  So I'll probably own a Megabass one day.  But I'm okay with waiting for it.
