Agree. That *** is getting old.

I think old folks  just get cranky because they can't see or hear right, peeing becomes a project, and they forget what it was like to be young. I just had a conversation not too long ago, where I said "Young folks have to figure it out or not, old folks are just onboard for the ride, they had their chance, and somehow it all works out warts and all".

I have taped the laser on the underside of the computer mouse of every new person we have hired for the past 8 years as a bit of a "measuring stick" with rookies where I work.  My co workers and I can usually tell how solid of a hire the new person is based on how quickly they figure this prank out.

Some people have taken days to figure this out, they call IT, replace their mouse, etc.  Others figure it out in under 10 minutes.

There was one older fella a few years ago that couldn't figure it out, and he even went through the process of changing the batteries.  The battery compartment is literally right next to the laser of the mouse too.  I'm not sure how someone could miss the tape there while changing the batteries.  LOL

LOL. I think that qualifies as a hostile work environment now, HR will be contacting you with the required inclusion training and written reprimand... :)

Unemployment hit 3% here in Maine last week. Lowest in history. Anyone wanting to work can work. All over the country, hardly anyplace that doesn't have 'hiring' signs up. It's an employee's market. If they don't want to work someplace because of conditions, pay, management or some other reason there are plenty of places wanting to poach them. Now, if this sounds like so spoiled worker talk wait until the worm turns as it always does and it's an employers market. Lower pay, take it or leave it there are plenty of people waiting to step in if you don't measure up. Leave, we've found someone better, bye.

I own a Pub. I've had Women come in to an interview with their boyfriend/husband in tow. I wouldn't even interview them because if she can't be out of their sight to take a job interview, what's going to happen when they're around a bunch of men who've been drinking. Brian.

It's a blend.  For qualifications, I split that into what skills can be taught (e.g. using Excel) vs. those that cannot (e.g. critical thinking).  Somebody who has a good head on their shoulders and is eager to learn what they don't know wins that category.

For personality, I look to see if they're a good fit for the company culture and my team.  That's a bit hard to explain, but at a high level, I compare the company's values with the candidate's and see if their goals align with the company's.

Thanks buddy! My qualifications are mostly in skunk eradication so I’ve got to get creative sometimes haha
