Jeff Zurawski Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Hi everyone. I'm 55 years old and grew up in Chicagoland about 20 miles west of the city. In my youth, I spent most of my fishing time chasing largemouths on local ponds within walking and biking distance from the house. Then I caught smallmouth fever after exploring the Kankakee River via wading and canoeing. From there I got into boat fishing and focused mainly on Lake Michigan salmon, perch, walleye, and smallmouths from SW Indiana up through the western shore to the Bay de Noc area at the north end of Green Bay. I moved to east-central West Virginia going on 14 years ago where I've been fishing almost exclusively for smallmouths in area rivers like the New, Greenbrier, Elk, and Gauley. During the past few years, I've gotten a little familiar with parts of the Upper James in east Virginia, too. I wade and bank fish some, but spend more time in my kayak or raft. I joined Bass Resource to keep up with the evolution of our sport and contribute to the community wherever I might be helpful. I'm also interested in trading trips. I can offer float fishing trips for smallmouths to anyone interested in experiencing the rivers named above in return for whatever kind of bass fishing you're doing in our southeastern region. Good fishin to all ! 3 Quote

wvsmallie Posted March 10, 2023 Posted March 10, 2023 Welcome. I'm a transplant too having moved to the Morgantown area 22 years ago. Spend most of my fishing time in my canoe or wading, generally chasing smallmouth. I envy your proximity to the New, Greenbrier, etc. 1 Quote

I think you have it good up your way too from what I've heard. ? I've haven't fished that far north yet. Only as far as the Cheat once out of St. George and one of its tributaries closer to Elkins. Super User Swamp Girl Posted March 11, 2023 Super User Posted March 11, 2023 Hey, Jeff! We have a lot in common. I started fishing in ponds for largemouth and then shifted to smallmouth. I've fished Little and Big Bays de Noc, as well as Green Bay. And I've paddled many rivers in WV, like the Yough, New, and Cassleman. I'm back to catching largemouth, but I catch some smallies too. Float fishing sounds fun! Wading is my favorite way to fish, but I canoe-fish nowadays. Quote

You ever make down this way and want to get a float in on one of the Rivers around here, hit me up. Quote
