Super User Mobasser Posted March 8, 2023 Super User Posted March 8, 2023 Since I was the youngest sibling in my family, people called me "Junior" from a very young age. Now I'm 65 yrs old. I still have relatives who call me Junior to this day. The nickname stuck. When I had a carpentry crew going we had two guys who were very big. One we called " Moose", and another who we called " Hoss". Both never minded these nicknames. They seemed to like them. When I seriously started bass fishing, I met an older guy who took me under his wing, and helped me out. At the time, he was the best bass fisherman I ever knew, so I gave him the nickname" Hot Stick". He never objected to me calling him this nickname. Do you have a nickname? Have you known other folks who had one? 3 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 8, 2023 Super User Posted March 8, 2023 We only used last names for friends, not nick names which probably came from sports. My mom called me Buzzard but never explained why. Maybe I should have bathed more often.? 6 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted March 8, 2023 Super User Posted March 8, 2023 Been called "Juice" by friends since high school. My name is Jesse, so most called me "Jess", which gradually became "Juice". Proud of that nickname As a baby my dad started calling me "Melon Head", but my mom wasn’t a fan of that one so my dad changed it to "Melon Man" haha 2 5 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted March 8, 2023 Super User Posted March 8, 2023 I was nicknamed Curtis as a kid. It was because (I think it was Curtis- it wasn’t a good nickname) there was one Asian kid in the Mouseketeer show and that was his name. So naturally all the kids glammed onto that. It was better than the other stuff that called me. I grew a thick skin quick and only punch my way out a few times. 3 Quote
volzfan59 Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 I am an extremely detail oriented person, extremely. My best friend in this world used to call me "Hawkeye" because very little ever got passed me. He shortened it to "Hawk" which he still calls me to this day. It never offended me at all, heck I know that I'm OCD to a fault. ? 3 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted March 8, 2023 Super User Posted March 8, 2023 Ironically my nickname has always been Bird by most. ? Growing up the only sport that I excelled at was basketball and everyone on the team called me " E " ......... Any of you older guys remember Elvin Hayes? 2 Quote

gunsinger Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 JR for me....not junior, but the two letters together. Started in the army where I had to initial all my work and people just took to calling my by my initials. Now, most of my crew call me that. Won't get into what my wife calls me ? 3 Quote

KSanford33 Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Suitcase… When I was in my early twenties I was basically a fill-in goalie for a bunch of semi-pro and Canadian senior hockey teams, so there was a stretch of time when I lived out of a suitcase for a while. Someone picked up on it and the name stuck. 3 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 8, 2023 Global Moderator Posted March 8, 2023 When my wife and I were dating her niece was two and couldn’t say Jeremy, so my future father in-law called me JJ which she quickly picked up on. 18 years later she still calls me JJ, so does her boyfriend, my 15 year old nephew, and my mother in-law. My dad, stepmom, step siblings, and their families all call me J. 2 Quote

Super User gim Posted March 9, 2023 Super User Posted March 9, 2023 Rocketman. That came from HS when I played golf and often hit it farthest off the tee with my driver. Woodchipper. That one came from my hockey days and everyone was still using wood hockey sticks. I broke so many of those things they started calling me that nickname. Of course now, everyone uses 1 piece composite hockey sticks. I call my boy Gump because if he's going somewhere, he's running! 2 3 Quote

Super User Columbia Craw Posted March 9, 2023 Super User Posted March 9, 2023 Dougie or Doooooglas. I’ve been called the claw due to a deformed fingernail. My favorite was bulldog. When I took a case on I never let go. I would work that investigation into the ground. I didn’t care how long it took. I never let go. 2 Quote
Woody B Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 I've never really had any nicknames. I don't count Woody as a nick name. My real name is Woodrow. I've got a friend who's 6'4"- 340. Everyone calls him Tiny. 2 1 Quote
thediscochef Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 "Dad" and variations thereof. I don't have kids and my romantic partners don't call me that. Some of my longtime friends call me that. It's unsettling. I think that's why they do it. My fishing buddies do not call me this. I have a nickname for one of my more frequent fishing buddies, Country Time. Man will skin a catfish anywhere with whatever tools he has without hesitation, gets in the ankle mud to land our big fishes at the river. He's a wild man, always a trip. 1 Quote

If you think skinning a catfish and walking in mud is wild, clearly you have never been to Florida 1 Quote
