ironbjorn Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Can anyone tell me about this rod? I've been on kind of a rollercoaster of a ride in pursuit of a new bank fishing rod. At first I was highly considering a 2 piece rod for the task, particularly a Mojo Bass, but I couldn't shake my skepticism of 2 piece rods. I decided I would go to the rod shop and let my Dobyns fanboyism take over. They didn't have anything in stock in the Champ XP or Extreme lines that fit the bill, so we were going to drop ship when I saw the Expride stand. I was looking at the 6'10" and 7'2" MH/F models. The employee has both rods and told me for my intended purposes that he would choose the 610MHF. Can anyone else tell me about this rod? I know the Expride line is very popular, but I hardly ever stray from Dobyns. This was definitely purchased on a whim due to my impatience. Quote
mrpao Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I dont have that particular 6'10 med hvy, but if its like the old adrena line then it's pretty much a shorter version of the very popular 7'2" med hvy. I have the new expride in the 7'2 light, 6'10" med and 7'2" med hvy. I still have the old expride in the 7'2" model. I also have both old and current model poison adrena's. I think for bank fishing the 6'10" med hvy would be a good choice as an all around rod. If you want to throw lighter stuff go with the 6'10" med. I think the new model 6'10 med is stiff enough for lighter jigs and T-rigs as well as moving baits. 1 Quote
waymont Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I’ve used a friends 6’10” Expride mh. I used it for 1/4-3/8 jigs, 3/8 chatterbaits, and 5” belly weighted swimbaits. It was great with these baits. That’s all used with it. 1 Quote
minrek1 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I have the 6 10 mh in both the Expride and Zodias. Very versatile. Excellent rods and prefer them to the 7 2. I prefer shorter rods in general tho. 1 Quote
LCG Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 6'10" MH is a great all around length and power. Don't have the expride, but have the Daiwa Rebellion 6'10" MH-R 2 piece and it's great for bank and kayak fishing. 1 Quote
MontclairDave Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 (edited) Listen to the end of the newest TB video. Matt Allen talks about catching an 11-lb bass on a Chatterbait using the Expride 6’10” MH/F and how well it handled that fish and how you can throw lots of different baits on it. I do a lot of bank and kayak angling and prefer shorter rods so if I was gonna get an Expride it would be this one. Edited March 4, 2023 by MontclairDave Eyes 1 Quote
PBBrandon Posted March 4, 2023 Posted March 4, 2023 I have the Zodias in the 6’10” MH and an Expride in the 7’2” MH. They are fantastic rods. The 6’10” makes a great jig/worm rod, spinnerbaits in close quarters, swimjigs, etc. Very versatile. The shorter rod will definitely help with bank fishing 1 Quote
ironbjorn Posted March 4, 2023 Author Posted March 4, 2023 Thanks for the info. I have the rod and was checking to make sure it's what I actually wanted for this purpose. I feel good about it. I'm mostly throwing spinnerbaits, jigs, Senkos, lipless crankbaits, and soft and hard jerkbaits when I'm beating the banks. I do not subscribe to the 3-4 combos train of thought when I hit the banks. Been there, done that, and I catch less fish. It's a hassle. If I can make a standard 4 power Dobyns fish a 110 and land 'em then I'm sure this rod can do everything for me as well. 1 Quote
00bullitt Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 I prefer the 6'10" rods in the Shimano line. Its a 2" shorter handle and 2" less tip - also a much thinner and lighter blank. The 7'2" rods are way overbuilt in my opinion and a full 1-1.5 ounces heavier. I have a few 7'2" Shimano rods but use the 6'10"s almost always. I have the Medium and Medium/Heavy in the SLX, Zodias and Expride and a Medium and Medium/Light Curado; all in 6'10". One word of warning....actions are similar across lines but not at all the same, but I do find the Medium to be more versatile than the M/H. The Exprides are amazing; very light and sensitive and the shape and size of the cork handles are to die for. If you are looking for an awesome one size fits all bank rod, have a look at the G. Loomis 843MBR (7') in the GCX or IMX line. I have the 843GCX and 844IMX and LOVE them! 1 1 Quote
ironbjorn Posted March 7, 2023 Author Posted March 7, 2023 I had my Expride out yesterday. Liked it so much I ordered the 6'10" Medium Zodias for my lipless cranks and jerkbaits. I'm sure it will be great too. ? (This happens every time I think I just want "one more rod for X"... Turns into multiple rods...) 1 Quote
lunkerboss923 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Great thread! Was curious about the 6'10" MH Expride B. I went out Kayaking yesterday and I was short struck 8 times. My rods were all 7'3" to 7'4". I couldn't throw into tight spaces around docks and cover. It was a bad day. I'm thinking this 6'10" would fit the bill better. Plus it would make for a great spinnerbait rod and an all purpose kayak rod. Quote
