Otter17 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Hi guys, i just received some of the Cool Baits Underspins, which I hear the eyes pop off often. I was considering removing them and trying a stronger glue. Would you recommend this idea or no? And if so, what would be the best or strongest glue for this application. Thankyou Quote
Super User Bankc Posted March 2, 2023 Super User Posted March 2, 2023 When I need strong, I go with an epoxy like JB Weld. The downside is, it's 24 hours to cure. But get the 24 hour curing type, as the stuff that cures in just a few hours or minutes doesn't hold as strong. 1 Quote
looking45 Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Brush clear nail polish over them to seal them in place 4 Quote
Super User MickD Posted March 2, 2023 Super User Posted March 2, 2023 Otter 17's approach will work well, as will covering the eye with UV curing epoxy and setting it with UV. No need to remove the eyes. Just cover them, overlapping onto the lure body, with one or the other. (UV curing epoxy = Solarez and many others) 1 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 2, 2023 Super User Posted March 2, 2023 Devcon 2 ton epoxy is what many bait makers use. 5 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted March 2, 2023 Super User Posted March 2, 2023 Whatever glue they use on the Scum Trophy frog, and SK swim jigs,..... NOT! 2 Quote

Quick and easy and lasts a long time. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted March 7, 2023 Super User Posted March 7, 2023 Gluing them on Loctite Gel. Eyes already in place coat over them with Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails fingernail polish. You will lose the lure before the eyes come off. Allen 2 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted March 7, 2023 Super User Posted March 7, 2023 Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails is a very nice little bottle to have around. This job, fixing a crack in the epoxy of a rod guide, and others. It's clear, said to be UV resistant, it's tough. Good stuff. 1 Quote

One day I ran out of gel and started using Sally nail polish under and over the eye. Never noticed a difference. Hard as nails. 1 Quote
Gera Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Question, are eyes really that important?? or are they just for us to keep the OCD away?? 2 Quote
Otter17 Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 Lol that’s a good point. My ocd has a tendency to creep up in these matters. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted March 9, 2023 Super User Posted March 9, 2023 Eyes can't hurt, might help. Makes sense that they would, IMHO. 1 Quote

Use Hard as Nails for other fishing applications, like painting it over any coloring you are using on your crankbaits. Only problem is asking a young clerk in the drug store if they have Hard as Nails and you notice the funny look on their face. 1 1 Quote

And then the secondary look given after I said I was for a fishing lure. 7 hours ago, MickD said: Eyes can't hurt, might help. Makes sense that they would, IMHO. 2 Quote
Otter17 Posted March 9, 2023 Author Posted March 9, 2023 Is this something that I reapply after each days use, or will it last for a while? Quote

I get a look at the craft store check out with beads, feathers, glitter, and copper wire, doesn't bother me, I do wish DSW carried open toe heels in larger sizes, I prefer them when I pedal a yak... 1 Quote

It will last for a while, although it has a tendence to crack and chip off from hiting things. So run your finger over the crankbait and feel for cracks and then reapply if you wish. 2 Quote
