Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 28, 2024 Super User Posted February 28, 2024 Today at a pond I saw a stretch of liquid water atop ice. It measured about 10' by 3' and appeared to be about an inch deep. It's going to drop to 11 degrees on Thursday, but after that, it's warm, with temps from the mid-forties to low fifties and a few nighttime lows above freezing. Heat wave, baby! I hope to see wet ponds in two or three weeks. Maybe a month. So, all y'all keep catching all your bass. Stretch your lines and leads. When our water's wet, I'll do my best to catch up. 3 Quote
fishingram24 Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Wish we still had dogwood trees, all of them around here have died out over the last 20 years with some type of blight. Probably had 30 or more on my 6 acres 25 years ago and the last one died 5 years ago. Quote

You can buy them at the store, Knoxville has a quite impressive dogwood trail to drive thru all the neighborhoods Quote
Johnbt Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 The shadbush/serviceberry trees are starting to bloom in the wetland woods around here. They are often mistaken for wild dogwoods. I think I saw a Bradford pear starting to bloom in a front yard, but I was going 45 mph. I haven't seen a white dogwood yet. So the shadbush trees are blooming and it's time for the shad to run. Too bad there aren't enough American shad to legally catch them. And herring. "(It is now illegal for any person to have river herring in their possession, including blueback herring and alewife. For more information about this regulation, see the VMRC website.)" Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 7, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 7, 2024 We have tons of Bradford blooming all over the roads and I have an extremely bloomed out magnolia bush in my backyard. Weeping willows already have green leaves Quote
OmegaDPW Posted March 7, 2024 Posted March 7, 2024 This is what I'm dealing with now. Like many folks, the city planted them everywhere years ago. Now, we're seeing how bad the root systems are. I have about 35 more of these to cut down "when I have the time". 🙄 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 7, 2024 Global Moderator Posted March 7, 2024 @OmegaDPW, it’s good firewood and BBQ smoke wood. Always available since they constantly fall over 1 Quote
