Ski Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Being here in Fl. the swimming worm is always rigged and on the deck. This is a new one I had to have. 2 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted March 2, 2023 Super User Posted March 2, 2023 Fishing a Speed Worm has always been under the radar for me ... The OG speed worm is the Zoom Ultra Vibe Speed Worm in Green Pumpkin or June Bug in the 15 pack. 4 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 2, 2023 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2023 They look alright, but the Magnum Zoom UV Speed Worm or standard sized Rage Cut R are the only ones I use. No reason to even look at anything else. Mike 6 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 2, 2023 Super User Posted March 2, 2023 Starting fishing the Cut R when it was first introduced several years ago. This worm is a consistent producer here in the Mid South. I rig it with a split shot and a standard T-rig. Every color works for me, pick your favorite! 3 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 2, 2023 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2023 I just bought some speed worms last night. It's something I've never really done but there's a couple lakes I fish that have offshore grass and it seems like they are supposed to be the deal for picking stubborn fish out of the grass. 1 Quote

Yep Don’t forget to try them on top or with a small weight depending on depth and drop it through any holes if it’s topped out. Mike 2 Quote

Mike I bought some 1/16 and 1/8 bullet weights to fish in front of them. The grass is mostly milfoil that tops out 2-5 feet deep. Wanted the light weight to keep them from crashing down into the grass but just enough to keep it down when I move them. 1 Quote

But it's just a different profile and a little heavier than the others. It's quite fat, hence the name. 32 minutes ago, Bluebasser86 said: I just bought some speed worms last night. You're gonna be hooked. Nothing comes through grass like a weighted swimming worm. If the grass is sparse I won't usually peg it. But if it's the thick stuff I'll peg it. I'll usually straight retrieve, popping it when it does get hung up a bit. Or a lot of times I'll just kill it and that'll generate some vicious strikes. Once the head of the worm starts getting torn up, I'll simply cut that portion off and just fish a shorter version of it. 2 Quote

A lot of companies now are making their own knockoffs with just subtle differences in the cut of the tail. Some a fatter, thinner or they’ll add some little nibs like you show above to try to get around the copyright of Zooms original. The only way to see what you and your fish like best is to experiment but to me nothing comes close to Zooms UV. 13 minutes ago, PhishLI said: Cool. When your fish wants a little more kick try the Mag or standard sized Rage Cut R. Thier mag is a little fatter, but with the Cut R’s tail flange on the tail you’ll get the kick you’re looking for without having to adjust your retrieve which I almost never have to do because of it. I can see this one working in chilly water late in the prespawn while the grass is still low. The zoom is heavy. Just another option. 1 Quote
