My wife is a clone of Rachel Ray and her specialty is Italian.

I've been a happy man for almost 40 years.

If you're bringing up professionals then I'm bringing up this one

A - Jay, your correct here. Teramasu and Italian wedding cake are delicious.  Lots of cookies to pick from also.

I forgot to bring up pepper and egg sandwiches. Not sure if you can find them outside of Chicago.

We also invented the Italian beef sandwich

I think your correct about this sandwich being a Chicago thing. I've never heard of this anywhere in Missouri. Kansas City had a very old sandwich place called LaSallas. They made some by slicing a  loaf of Italian bread lengthways, and piling on all sorts of meat and cheese. Sometimes when I worked down there we would get one and cut it into four chunks for lunch. Also used to get a grinder. Hollow out a roll and stuff with meatballs or sausage. Really good. I'm not sure if they're still in business now.

The big beef sandwich at Portillo's is pretty decent.  Usually what I get when I go there.

I like all kinds of italian food ranging from your basic bolognese to all types of pizza.  One of my favorite super simple dishes is Cacio e Pepe.

I think we need Giada to do something like Rachel Ray did...

Not to take anything away from them, but do yourself a favor the next time you’re there.
Stop by a small family owned sandwich shop in almost any neighborhood in the city.

Chains like Portillo’s are just a franchise with no soul.

Get one at a Mom and Pop who survives only by who cooks it with their name on the building and hopefully you’ll see what I mean.

I was referring to the one that was about 3 miles from my house here in MN.  I don't think there is another italian beef sandwich venue in the area here.

I won't be visiting Chicago anytime soon.  Not if I can help it lol

Italian food is probably my favorite. I love lasagna, chicken parmesan and spaghetti with Italian sausage with the sauce. Doggone, I'm "jonesing" for Italian now.

Is chicken parmesan even real Italian food?

Not sure.  When I initially posted pizza as one of my favorite italian foods, I thought about that too.  Most of our pizza here I'm sure isn't really "italian" anymore.  But it did technically originate in Italy, so...if the shoe fits, wear it.

There's a couple places around the KC area that have great Italian food with long family histories. Garozzo's and Cascone's are my favorites. The lasagna, spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, eggplant parmesan, alfredo, it's all so good I about have to roll myself out to the car when we go.

Portillos was sold to a company in CA many years ago and went public last year. I think the plan is to expand nationwide with both company and franchise stores. The size of the beef sandwich has shrunk over the years. The place is a gold mine with lines around the block during the lunch and dinner rush. Last time I was at a Portillos was when my mom was on her death bed 3 years ago. The only thing she would eat is their chocolate cake.

Yes, Portillos is good but there are much better in the Chicago area. I think they do a pepper and egg sandwich special during Lent.

They only recently expanded to MN a couple years ago, so I can't comment on the "shrinkage" of their sandwiches.

You are correct on the lines though.  Place is enormous and its seemingly always busy, both inside and drive thru.  When I go there we usually go inside and sit down to eat.

The closet one to me is 3 hrs away in Brandon and I think Tampa.

The pepper and egg is worth a road trip

I get Chicken Bryan from Carrabas every few months.  Between that and pizza from a local Indian joint, I'm good....oh...and Stouffer's lasagna.

Eating in Italy was entirely different experience than anything I've ever had here.   I'd prefer Italian food in Rome or Palermo, but for here, I'm not picky

There ain’t too much Italian cuisine I don’t like (I’ll pass on scungilli). I love me some veal scallopini, piccata and saltimbocca.

Arrosticini, and porchetta are my favorites.

Italian food here isnt the same as in Italy.  I stayed in a little town of Vacri years ago and it was amazing.  Same as the wine.

There’s a place down here in Moody, AL called Carpenetti's Pizza. The owner was a master machinist up in New York I believe before retiring and moving down here. Story has it he couldn’t find a decent pizza anywhere so he opened his own place. Some of the best pizza (and Italian food) I ever had.

I also like spaghetti, lasagna and Italian sausage. ?

Large pasta maker in the town my parents grew up, Lowell Massachusetts. They had an old slogan, Wednesday is prince spaghetti day, and every guinea family around had prince spaghetti every Wednesday,  my family included.
