VTFan Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 I have an old Abu Garcia Silvermax and recently the anti reverse has stopped working sporadically. I'm assuming over time it's gotten dirty and maybe too much oil build up over the years. My question is, and I'm assuming here, is the anti reverse located under the plate on the handle side? And if so, is it much of a task to take that plate off to clean it and put back on? Thanks fellas!! Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted February 28, 2023 Super User Posted February 28, 2023 If this is your reel, it's easy to get to, it's in the main shaft stack. https://www.ereplacementparts.com/abu-garcia-black-max-1701-ambassadeur-parts-c-187196_194578_194580.html You can buy a new one, cheep Quote

Got a new one, was going to keep this one for a backup. Just tinkering with it. Thanks Bulldog!! 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 99% of AR issues can be corrected with cleaning and proper lubrication. Causes of actual damage include neglect, locked drag, corrosion among other things. 1 Quote
VTFan Posted February 28, 2023 Author Posted February 28, 2023 Yes, Delaware. It started doing it back in the dead of winter when it was cold. This morning when temps were in the 40's it did it. This afternoon with temps in the 70's I could not make it do it. Makes me believe it's just dirty and built up crud from oil over the years. Quote
garroyo130 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 I would also be careful about using too much grease on the gears/drag stack as it can migrate into the inner AR sleeve and cause issues. Quote
