PourMyOwn Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 I got a Skeet Reese rod in his patented bumble bee colors. It was 39.99 and I couldn't pass it up. Actually it was 44.99 if you count the can of black rustoleum I used to make it all better. 1 2 Quote

Super User Jrob78 Posted March 1, 2023 Super User Posted March 1, 2023 It just occurred to me after the new Daiwa Tatula Elite rod thread that I have absolutely not bought any of those rods because they're ugly and look cheap to me. I will not be buying any of the new ones either, at least not the gray ones with the gray eva grips. I know they are probably great rods but I'm out on them. It's not even that I don't like colored blanks because I have some St. Croix's in a few different blues, dark greens and teals, it's the grays and whites that look cheap to me and I won't buy them. lol 1 Quote

My buddy calls them my terminator setups. 1 Quote

KP Duty Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 Appearance matters, but performance always trumps looks. Some say fishing equipment is just a tool, but the same could be said for trucks and clothing. 4 Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted March 2, 2023 Posted March 2, 2023 I'd love one of these, a Toy Machine Superlative, made by Isuzu for Frog Products in Japan. 3 Quote

You just missed out on a camo that sold out at LureShopSawa within the past few weeks. http://sawamura777.com/?pid=155135418 I checked Yahoo listings for you - they've all doubled the price 2 Quote

That's because its Japanese and they have some sort of special high functioning autism to make that work. It's the low effort chinease stuff that looks the worst. I like the clear side plate toy machine the best. 3 Quote

I remember when Shimano released the second generation of Cumaras. The color was pretty shocking and polarizing, especially compared to the original. I look at them now and think they were really great looking rods. I have 3 of them that I don't even use but I'm reluctant to sell them just because I like how they look. 2 Quote

Shimano has kept accents of this red/burgundy color on rods and reels even up to their current stuff. Just not as a base/main color. Quote

You haven't lived until you've scrolled AE fishing gear. There are some real gems out there when it comes to pictures of gear. One had a pistol grip casting rod with a center pin reel on it with the rod being held by the model upside-down with the trigger sticking up like a spike. I have that somewhere. 1 Quote

JediAmoeba Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 If the rod I wanted was hot pink and the reel I wanted was bright neon blue, I would fish it without quarrel. I don't match the parts up or care about adding do-hickeys to make it look cool... as long as it functions the way I want, let's go! Quote
