Tony Christian Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 I ran out of Fat Impacts and need a good trailer for my Divine 1/4 oz Swim Jig. I am afraid the easy shiner may not kick enough to make the jig roll. Could I still use it or should I buy some Fat Impacts? I was also wondering if the less kick from the Easy Shiner would be more attractive to lethargic bass. Quote
Derek1 Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 It’s one of those things you just have to try. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 27, 2023 Global Moderator Posted February 27, 2023 Not to confuse you with other options, but I use the RI Skinny Dipper or the Big EZ exclusively fir them. For me The Dipper has the right of vibration and the Big EZ the thump for what you describe. Mike 2 Quote
Finessegenics Posted February 27, 2023 Posted February 27, 2023 I don't think it'll make the jig rock, which in my opinion is the whole point of a swim jig. The easy shiners could work as a subtle presentation but the fat impacts are subtle enough for me. The fat impacts really don't make the jig rock all that much. If you compare the fat impacts with other thick swimbaits, you'll see what I mean. That being said, the easy shiners are still worth trying! Experiment to see what works for you, you might just be on to something. Quote

I prefer to use lighter/smaller swim jigs with 3" spark shads and 3.5" easy shiners in the colder water. Hardest part is threading on that silly easy shiner, right lol. Just a confidence thing for me. Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Easy Shiners will catch fish, but they dont have very much roll, although IMO the SI fats dont have a ton of roll either. My top 3 are probably the Swammer, Dwalker and Zoom swiming super fluke. I think all of them have more roll then a SI fat. 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 28, 2023 Super User Posted February 28, 2023 It works but it depends on the swim jig. I make my own 1/4oz northern style swim jig and a 4" easy shiner trailer works well. The other guys have it right, you won't get that roll when using it but the slow kick will get you bites when they don't want anything aggressive. Quote
Tony Christian Posted February 28, 2023 Author Posted February 28, 2023 This is new information to me, I have never used anything but fat impacts and thought they were the standard. I am now going to have to end up spending 30 dollars on all of this stuff instead of the 7 I would need to pay for fat impacts. Thanks to everyone for answering my question. Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Well in the case of the D walker youre actually going to save money especially if you can get them on the screw lock right. They can take a beating compared to a keitech. The swammers are very soft, like keitechs and they dont have the durablity of the Dwalkers, but they have great action. The swammer bodies are solid, so once the head splits, I just paste it up with mend it and throw it back on. You might get much better results durability wise since youre using a jig with a screw lock. 3 Quote

I know this wasn’t your topic OP, but if you want an agressive jig trailer go with the XZone Swammer! For more subtlety use the fat impacts. 1 pack of each is plenty. 1 Quote
evilcatfish Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 I’ve been leaning more towards easy shiners over fats for a while now, for both swim jigs and basic ballheads. Obviously, they both work well, just gotta experiment and see what works best for you Quote
