Haha.  Never a good idea, really.

but I once did this as a joke with my wife when I was a few Benjamin’s short for a guided fishing trip. She did laugh. Cat is still here. There were zero offers.   She will chew every iPhone charge cord within eyesight.

i used to sell guitars to buy other guitars.  now i have too many guitars, because i bought ones i didn't want to sell.  when i'm working steady, i have to really struggle not to do that with motorcycles. guns and ammo are the same. i have to try really hard to resist when i see a great deal.   i used to do that with fishing gear, but at some point,  i learned a valuable lesson.  some things are meant to catch fish, some things are meant to catch fisherman.

I do it ALL THE TIME with guns, guitars, fishing stuff, etc. As a dad of young kids, in a field that doesn't pay a whole lot (church work), if I want to buy something, the money has to come from somewhere. For several years, I had a very profitable side business as a knifemaker. That money is now my play money and I "recycle it" through buying and selling stuff whenever I want to try something out.

My policy is, I only keep something if I absolutely love it. As such, I have a handful of items that I really love and won't sell. Everything else is on the chopping block. It's just stuff...
