Jmontgomery87 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 3700 size boxes and plastics stay in original bags inside of a gallon freezer bag. Everything goes into an Army surplus Molle assault pack along with some basic survival items. It serves multiple roles as a tackle/overnight camping/hunting bag. 1 Quote

Back in the day, bass anglers were judged by the amount of their tackle. The more tackle, the better fisherman you were. My bass hero when I was a kid had swing out tackle drawers built into his boat, which was pretty wild back then. I remember showing up with a giant tackle box as a co-angler in a B.A.S.S. Federation Tournament back in the seventies. The boater took one look at me and told me all I needed was a pack of black worms in my top pocket. Funny thing was, he was right. This kind of stuff exists today. My home waters are filled with bass boats that cost 5-6 times as much as my first house. Every single one was two power poles, a motor that would pull a semi and enough electronics to launch a trip to Mars. Bass anglers always want to look like their heroes. It's a "mine is bigger than yours" thing. ? 3 Quote

It fits 2 3600 and has tons of pockets and an outside pocket for the pliers. I like it. Fits all I need for a day trip and is super light. Also has a front pocket for my soft plastics and ned stuff. Up to 5 or 6 bags. Even a drink holder.... Has a handle, shoulder strap....It was exactly what I was looking for. Easy to grab and go with essentials. Zippers are solid. Only $30 or so. I had previous purchased a plano speedbag for softs. I keep my extra stuff in that to replenish this kastking. I have a similar bag for ground fishing the Gulf of Maine. Big storage bag sits in my house and is used to replenish the contents of the small bag. It's all my son and I need. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 24, 2023 Super User Posted February 24, 2023 I have a BPS 3700 Extreme Qualifier, a 3600 Extreme Qualifier, and a BPS Satchel. You can read all about those early tournaments in Ray Scott's book "Bass Boss". In those days, Bill Dance was a force to be reckoned with. Roland Martin was so taken by Bill's bass catching ability, he didn't believe he could measure up. Ray Scott had to talk him into entering his first tournaments. Not much has changed except for the financial aspects of tournaments. TV tournaments are all about selling products to anglers. Same thing happened to auto racing. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted February 24, 2023 Super User Posted February 24, 2023 I keep the Z-man Elaztec plastics in their original bag. For all other soft plastics, I keep them in a single 3600 box, sorted by color (because sometimes the colors can bleed). I keep the rest of my soft plastics in their original bags at home. Before going out for a day of fishing, I'll load up the 3600 box with whatever I think I might need for the day. It saves room, weight, and makes it easier to find what I need. Yeah, in theory I'm limiting my choices on the water and might be missing out on a bite. But, the way I see it, what are the odds that I would ever try a bait that I didn't think enough of to even bring? 1 Quote
07Rapala Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 WOW! I've got to say, I'm a bit overwhelmed at everyone's response! It's going to take me a while to sort through all this advice. Thanks everyone. To be clear, I'm looking for good at-home storage. Right now I'm looking for a solution for soft plastics, but the old 8606 is not long for this world, so I will need a hard bait solution too. Most of my fishing is in my canoe, and I pair down what I take out with me into a single small Pelican box for the hard baits, and a gallon-sized zip-lock for the soft baits. But I could also use a mid-sized box that I could take with me for a day in my father's boat or on weekend trips. After a quick pass through of all these posts, I'm liking the idea of a worm binder for storing the soft plastics at home (in original bags for sure), and a modular 3700 box based system for home hard baits storage and a small-ish travel box. Prior to last year, my fishing was in a canoe - still took everything with me. An Extreme Qualifier (camo pattern) stuffed, a Plano B-series stuffed - those two under the middle seat. Two Advanced Anger II Large (3600 size), one Cabelas/one BPS, with 7x3607-10 boxes in each stuffed with plastics under the rear seat. 9 rigs in custom built racks in the stern. 1 Quote

For home storage of plastics, leave them in the original bag and hang them on pegboard or equivalent. Plastic tubs are also a good option as you can stand the bags up vertically like a file cabinet. A worm binder would work too. For on the water in a canoe, the KVD/Plano speed bag would be a great match for what you're needing. Store them at home in a tub and throw the ones you need for the day in the speed bag. For hard baits and general 'every trip' use, I use the plano guide series. It holds 5 3700, 1x 3600, plus two pockets. To do it again, I'd probably go with a cheaper actual bag that holds a bit more. I normally want to carry 6 or 7 3700 and there are options for holding that which aren't much bigger. If you go that route, you can use a 3700 with no internal dividers for your plastics each trip and swap what's in that box like you would a speed bag. 2 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted February 24, 2023 Super User Posted February 24, 2023 For storing at home, I'd just leave your soft plastics in their original packages, or put them in ziploc bags if you've lost those. What to put those packages in, depends on how many you have. If it's not too many, then I recommend just something like a standard plastic storage bin. It's stackable and you can get them in the size that best fits whatever space you want to put the bin(s) in. If it's a good bit more, then maybe look into the binders, and put those in the storage bins. That'll help keep things organized so you can actually find what you're looking for. The 3700 style cases are kind of expensive for holding all of your unused soft plastics. Plus, they'll open you up to cross contamination (mainly color bleed) and cause your scented plastics to dry out faster. They're much better for organizing hard plastics and perhaps transporting a few soft plastics that you actually plan to use. The best thing with them is that you can set up specific cases for specific circumstances. So you might have one that's all the lure you could want for bank fishing one particular lake. And another might be for boat fishing during the prespawn. And another might be just deep crankbaits, or crankbaits for stained water. So you might get 15 different 3700 cases, but only take 2 or 3 with you. Or maybe 12-14. It's totally modular! Quote

It's like the AA-II Large bags - I prefer the older Cabelas version to the revamped BPS version. Quote

Friggs Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I was looking for a new tackle n=box. My old was is huge. I came across this Plano 3952-10 Double Sided Satchel and with it being double sided it held everything that was in my huge box with room left over. The only issue for me is I can't fit in my plastics. So I got a small soft-sided bag just for them and it all works great. If you weren't a tackle nut like me and had an obsession with soft plastics you might be able to fit them in without an issue. The latches seem cheap. But I have had it for two years with no issues. But with it being double sided, make sure the lids are clipped shut before you flip it over. Did that once and I learned that lesson. Quote
