RichF Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I decided to get an ultralight rod to play around with like I did when I was a kid. Need a reel for it. Not lookin to spend more than $100 since it likely won’t get used too often. Thinking about a Pflueger President or Daiwa Regal but all suggestions are welcome! Quote

Fishin Dad Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I actually use bigger size reels on my ultralights for crappie and such. I use a Daiwa Tatula LT 3000 cxh. I would look at a Daiwa Exceller LT for $99 in the 2500 or 3000. The nice thing about these LT reels is they are light weight enough for ultralight and you can move them to stronger bass rods if needed. I just grabbed a Tatula LT 4000 for $127 to try. I think I might love it. I have reels from 500 size for ice fishing up to now a 4000. I have found I like bigger reels, 2500 being the smallest I would go for anything other than ice fishing. 1 Quote
Eric 26 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 It’s not a popular choice and it’s made in China but I have 2 Piscifun Carbon X 1000 reels that I love. $59.99 on Amazon currently. Quote
thunderblack Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Shimano Sahara 1000 on mine. Love it. Quote
Bigassbass Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Academy sells Shimano 1000 reels and Walmart has a great price for UL Shimano or ABU they will be under a 100 bucks at either place. The Pflugger President 25 size is a super fine UL reel, don't buy any other size because the larger reels have a lot of slack in the take up, you'll fight the line trying to reel in. Quote
PBBrandon Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Asian Portal has the 2000 size Miravel for $82. I haven’t tried the Miravel but it looks like it has a lot of bells and whistles for the price tag. The Daiwa Fuego LT is another good one. I have one and love it. If you are worried about the Magseal, the Exceler is pretty much the same thing for a bit cheaper and no Magseal Quote
A kid from Canada Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Okuma Ceymar, very light reel and well under your budget. Quote

They are solid reels for the price point. The TG Ceymar gives you an upgraded drag. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 While not the stand alone it used to be the President is still a good bang for the buck. $75-$100 for a spinning reel is a good budget for a quality reel. Just compare features and shop for a deal and you can hardly go wrong. 1 Quote
