The amount of orders they get every day is probably an unbelievable number. I would think if you pick the free shipping. You go to the back of the line, then they go in order. Express shipping orders  jump the line as they come in.
not trying to defend them or anything, but I’m sure the employees are stuffing boxes fast as they can all day.

Thats the only way they would be able to bill 8 months after the fact. Im fairly certain per PCI compliance or whatnot they can't keep your payment information post-purchase unless you allow them to.

They are charging the item to the same card you used with the initial order that the item was backordered on.  Once you place the order you have permitted them to withdraw the $ amount of amount of each and every item listed once the item is shipped.

Ive never saved my card info and they go ahead and bill the card used in the initial order every time I had gotten a backordered item. In the past 15 years all of the backordered items I have gotten were shipped in under 6 months.  The only backordered item I never got was a Duo 85 in LC Wakasagi that Duo decided to pull from the USDM after postponing initial delivery several times.

Pre covid they were johnny on the spot no matter what kind of shipping I got.  If i didnt get the 5$ 2 day the order would be at my house in 4-5 business days and I'm literally on the other side of the country.  I think thats how TW became the juggernaut it is today, no one had 5$ 2 day shipping.  As long as the item is in stock at the retail location, I get TD deliveries in 2 bussiness days or less  but thats because I live an hour from their main retail and shipping facility.

Cbump. We are in the same boat The big girls are moving in & have the feed bag on.  I have seen 8+ to 12+ brought to the scales I have 2 Cardiologist That do not want me out in the boat . I just got my heart pump working to 45 to 50% . I am very lucky to be having this discussion with all of you. Heck I am single & I accuse them of wanting me to wear a face mask in my house. I am a very high risk.

GetFishorDieTryin the back ordered item ( frogs) was cancelled that same time. At this point my bank is taking care of this. they have the necessary paperwork needed to handle it. When the package arrives at the office the girls at the front desk know to write return to sender on the package & give it back to the carrier.

For the most part, since covid hit they seem to be a bit of an inconsistent mess and remain so today even though nearly every other tackle retailer has figured it out. Awhile back they sent me an email stating they would be cancelling my backordered rod since it had been x-amount of time since I ordered it on black friday... I replied that since it was in stock at the moment I'd much prefer they just ship me the rod. They did. Really odd experience and their attention to detail and customer service has really, really dropped off.

I don't even bother with TW anymore - other places have better selections, better CS and faster shipping....and quite often better prices too.

Who had better selections?

For hardbaits - FishUSA usually has the full line of colors where TW has a limited selection....

Examples:

Rapala DT Fat - FUSA: 14 colors, TW: 7 colors

Rapala Jointed Shallow Shad - FUSA: 18 Colors, TW: doesn't carry them at all

and it just goes on-and-on.

Also, I've cancelled items that had a backorder date of 2-3 months out at TW where-as places like Academy and even Fleet Farm had them in stock.

TW has a WAY bigger selection than Fish USA, and every other tackle shop in the country. FUSA might carry more colors of a specific bait but they don't have near the variety TW has.

Their shipping has gotten slower over the years but I've never once paid for shipping so waiting a week or whatever to get an order is never a big deal for me. I've probably placed in the neighborhood of 75-100 orders with them and have had an issue here and there. They've always done whatever was needed to make it right.
