I want a rod specifically for jigs. 1/2 oz swim jigs with paddle tail trailers and 1/2 oz pitching jigs with beaver type trailers. Both with 20lb fc.

Occasionally though I want to throw 1/2 oz jig plus trailer with a stouter braid hook. Think dirty water with lots of flooded heavy cover. In this scenario I would throw 50-65lb Braid.

Just curious if you think this rod would be good for both scenarios or if I should go a different route.

Alternatively I have a back up 7’3” worm rod (Falcon Bucoo Amistad) that I could change out to full time  braid and use that for my jig/braid scenario. This could then also double as a frog rod.

If I did that though I would want a second worm rod (to replace the role of the Amistad now). So would the 844c MBR work for Texas rig also? Mostly creatures and 10” worms.

Thanks

I have the older version and it's pretty versatile.  I mainly use it for topwater but it's also great for jigs and Texas rigged plastic. One my favorites for this rod is the fat ika rigged backwards.

It has some power but its not a brute. I would use it around trees and stumps (no braid here) but maybe not so much in super heavy vegetation (braid would be good in this case). It's fine for your everyday grass and weeds.

The 844 mbr is one of my favorite rods. Great for 3/8-1/2oz jigs, dragging 3/8 t rigs with big worms, and big t rig creature baits like 4” pit boss w/ 3/8oz or 1/2oz weights. It’s a great swim jig and swimbait rod too.

The MBR's make good moving bait rods also. The 844 is a great big spinnerbait/buzzbait rod.

I’m pumped. Unfortunately I only have a Tatula 80 to put on It right now. Not sure that reel is worthy of this rod but it’ll work.

Fieder used the 80 in Florida this last week. If he trusts serious tourney money on I think it will be a great fit until you upgrade.

Wish I wouldn't have sold my pair of OG 844's ?.  Those OG's have titanium/SiC's versus stainless/SiC on the new version.  Not a deal breaker, but I miss the classic ECS seat.

I have the older IMX and GLX. Both have been great but they may need to be retired soon.

It's small, but it's not really a finesse reel. Pretty much a standard Tat minus a little max drag. Do it to it.

I did some maneuvering and put the 80 on the Spec R and the GLX will get the new Bantam.

Megabass/Daiwa Loomis/Shimano seemed more fitting.

I know it hasn't been mentioned in this thread, but it's also my favorite 1/2oz jig skipping rod too. The 844 is such a great rod for tons of applications. Congratulations.
