papajoe222 Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 That surface layer of water would be warmer than on the bottom. One of the baits that produces under blue bird skies like you mentioned, is a floating worm. Bubblegum is my color of choice, but you may need to try a few different ones. Also, if you're attracting nippers, pinch off a section of the worm for a smaller presentation. 1 Quote
stratos4me Posted February 18, 2023 Posted February 18, 2023 Go back in a few weeks and do exactly the same thing. I've been throwing an umbrella rig a few times off my dock every few days for the last couple weeks just waiting for the season to start. The water is 45. Today I finally got bit and it was a 7-14. Tomorrow I'll launch my boat for the season. I changed nothing from day to day. Have confidence! It's just too early. 17 hours ago, The Bassman said: Follow the wind. Windward is typically more productive than the lee side. Can be uncomfortable in cold weather but I've proven the importance of it many times. There is a phenomenon where the warmer, windblown surface layer skates across the cooler, deeper water and piles up on the wind blown bank. 1 Quote
