BaitFuel Fish Attractant Gel

Has anyone tried it? I've seen reviews both yea and nay. I'm not a firm believer in any attractants. I've fished my plain plastics swim baits alongside  a friend who always used Gulp baits. He never outfished me. I do use anise scented gels only because I like the smell but it's no great advantage.

I don’t know if it helps but if it makes you feel more confident it could help put an extra bass or 2 in the boat.

 

Here’s an interesting video discussing how bass find their nests using scent that looked at a somewhat recent study in Canada. Not exactly the same as eating but still a good watch -

I am on the fence with this one.  I can say it doesn't seem to negatively affect anything, but I haven't had an experience where it made a truly noticeable difference either.  One thing I have observed about it is that after it sits in a bag with plastics for some time it seems to thicken quite a bit.

I don't like how it makes baits milky if you squirt it in the bag and let them sit. My OSP mylar minows were white and my speedcraws got dull and solid colored.

It dried out in the few bags I added to and ended up being a white hard flaky substance. 

 

BTW I have fished it side by side with an untreated worm and saw no difference.

I'd try just applying to one or two soft plastics in a lunch baggie and see how your soft plastics respond to any color changes .  The other option is to apply to one soft plastic at a time out on the lake and then immediately fish that soft plastic . Since it is a jell it should stay put .

I think it is just lube sold to screw with fishermen. ?That said I bought a bottle on the off season- haven’t tried it yet.

I've had instances where scent really did make a difference.  Sure, it's not an everyday thing, but during tough bites especially, scent can really help!  I mean, think about it, nearly every soft plastic sold these days has scent in them.  They wouldn't do that if it repulsed fish. LOL!

Baitfuel is freakin' expensive...as well as the new baitmate livescope gel.  I'm using Berkley attractant.  We all know powerbait works, so I figure their attractant has good odds of being affective.

To me scent doesn't really get your more bites- but when that inactive fish sucks it in I believe they roll it around in their mouth a bit giving it a taste. In turn this gives me an opportunity to set the hook.

I use an attractant. As others have said I can’t see it hurting. I think it can help. Now i have had times where I put a fresh dab on, cast back out and hook one. I don’t think it will make or break your day. I do think it will add a few more to you’re total day though.

I don't put a lot of confidence in using scents, never have. I bought some Bait Fuel late last summer and used it with zero results. I'll use it this spring and summer and see if it's any better. So far I'm not impressed.

Never tried spike-it?  In the stained waters I fish, an incognito colored bait like green pumpkin or snoke with the tip of tail/legs dipped in chartreuse dye is a hit.

Wow! Chart dye on smoke colored baits in stained water make them functional?! What kind of voodoo magic is that stuff!?  If it works with smoke, the most transparent and natural color, it will make any plastic color formidable!

Many years ago in Bassmaster magazine, Gary Klein smashed the record stringer weight for the 'A day on the lake with a pro' monthly article where pros fished an unknown lake.  He was pitching a smoke/red flake berkley power tube with tail tips dipped in chartreuse dye.  His performance impressed me enough that I picked up some smoke/red flake power tubes that weekend.

Threw mine in the trash after it solidified in my bait bags and left white residue.

I have it and haven't seen any increase in my catches.
