Consider a self deploy and retrieve trolling motor, then you can remain seated where you are safe.

i like this one.  fish on!!!

how about putting a ferrous nut on the rope handle and picking it up with a stick with a magnet on the end?

nah..get the motorized deploy one.  safety first?

I'll 3rd the recommendation for an Ulterra if you've got the cash and don't fish in freezing conditions. The stow/deploy can get jammed up if its wet and below freezing.

Not sure what kind of boat you have to know if this would be a cheaper alternative, but Ashmore Marine Products has a "helping hand" device that tightens down with your locator gimble and can hold your rope up higher. It doesn't provide a post for you, but would keep it higher so you wouldn't have to bend down as far and doesn't take away from your deck space.

My first suggestion would be to purchase a Minn Kota Ulterra. Can’t put a cost on safety.
my next suggestion would be if it’s a bass boat and your using the front seat you can rig a safety line that will connect to the pole and attach the other end to you when your going retrieve your trolling motor to the stored position.

Good luck and keep safe.

I’d make two recommendations.  The Ulterra and Millennium seats.  I had to go to the Ulterra because of broken ribs that didn’t heal properly.  I just added the seat for comfort and safety.

Disabled Grabber tool is inexpensive and works good for picking up things like you TM rope handle.

Hang onto your pedestal seat when pulling up the TM.

Much respect for a man that refuses to succumb.

Hope you find a solution and keep getting up with the getting up.
