KYKBassing Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 Long time lurker here, finally decided to jump in. This board has provided a ton of useful information. I fished routinely with my dad growing up, but took a long hiatus. I picked it up again after scheduling a Canadian outpost trip a couple years ago and have been spending more and more time (and money) getting into bass fishing since. Bought a kayak in 2020 and have it just about decked out like I'd like, enjoying the shallow water spots around the Mississippi on pools 7 & 8. Quote

bloom Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 hello and welcome, I'm a little north of you in Hayward. Never fished the mississippi but have heard of some very good fishing there. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 14, 2023 Super User Posted February 14, 2023 KYK, I lived in western Wisconsin for 30 years and loved fishing the Mississippi: below dams, the river proper, the backwaters, the pools, and Lake Pepin. I even paddled the river twice, from source-to-sea, in a kayak, and some other rivers too, like the Ohio and Thames. What are you catching in pools 7 & 8? Quote
GRiver Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 Hello from the Sunshine State of Florida, never have fished the Mississippi every time I’ve crossed it, it was muddy. Quote

Except I am from SE WI, I got my first kayak in maybe 2014.... and now I fish VA/NC mostly Quote

KYKBassing Posted February 15, 2023 Author Posted February 15, 2023 Thanks for all the welcomes, sometimes the world ends up being a lot smaller place than we think. Ol'crickety, some of those adventures sound amazing. To answer your question, there's plenty of largemouth and smallmouth around, although it's a pretty pressured area. There's way too many pike around, to the point I'm trying a tieable single strand leader for jerkbaits and chatterbaits, they've stolen quite a few from me.? Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 15, 2023 Super User Posted February 15, 2023 Welcome to the forum! You live on some of the best bass waters around! 7 & 8 are two of my favorite pools to fish. They get pressured, but they still fish great! The river provides so many opportunities and since you're using a kayak, you can access some of those backwaters normal anglers can't leaving you with some nearly untapped waters. Quote

I made it to 27 years old before I got kicked out. WV doesn’t have its own team so people here are more tolerant. FTP 2 Quote

Also things look as though they may be on the upswing from the team to possibly a new state of the art facility being proposed. 2 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 16, 2023 Super User Posted February 16, 2023 Deal, Eric! #themonstersofthemidwayforme P. S. - However, if the Bears sign Rodgers, my fidelity will be fleeting because I simply can't cheer for Rodgers in the Bears backfield throwing from a hyperbaric, sensory-deprivation tank while shamen chant on the sidelines. 2 Quote
Eric 26 Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 I completely forgot to welcome KYKBassing ? So better late than never welcome from New Lenox Illinois ?. Hoping to see a few pics of the kayak in the show off your ride section in the Bass Boats Canoes and Kayak forum. 1 Quote
