Virtually every single one that I see in the summer time does not have one on. And since there aren't any compartments on a paddle board, its obvious they are breaking state law. There is a serious lack of enforcement here on this sort of thing. 2 Quote

I got told it should have been out. I didn’t argue but, there was 4-5 kayaks on the launch getting ready to head out. If they were concerned about our safety he would have checked them as they were just heading out. I guess they just figured I’d be the bigger payday. Quote

airshot Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 A lot depends on the state you live in and the area you boat in. Here in Ohio, they will pull you over if there is an official in the area. I look forward to a safety inspection, so I can get that safety sticker so they wont bother me anymore. Last year I downsized my boat, bought a very nice used outfit. Spent much of the last couple months of the boating season looking to get a safety inspection, nope...they are never around when you need them !!! Quote

It almost always takes 'some amount' of significant loss of life that indicates self-regulation isn't working and insurance companies have to pay for it before there's a change or action is taken. Then there is often some type of 'regulation' that makes what everyone is currently doing 'illegal'. Which can let the insurance companies off the hook. Seems they don't actually care if we kill ourselves or each other, they just don't want to have to pay for it. During the course of my life time examples are but may not be limited to; Seat Belts, Motor Cycle, ATV, Snow machine Helmets, and the list of 'required' boating safety equipment, including Life Jackets / Throwable devices. Not saying any of this is good or bad. Just saying. A-Jay 4 Quote
airshot Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 With the big push on electric everything and with new battery technology, lots of definitions in the laws will be changing in the near future !! Quote
