My dad use to say “ I bought this lure to catch fish on it, or lose it trying to catch them” and “ It’s not going to catch fish in my tackle box”. I try to remember that when I’m fishing. 1 Quote
Pat Brown Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 In honor of you and the thread, I put a 10-in ribbon tail worm on the back of a full skirted rubber jig and I'm going to throw it before the snow hits tonight lol. Let's see if these bass want that lure to look like it's 1978. 1 Quote

Yes, and I still use one particular lure often. When I was a kid I caught more bass on this one by a wide margin fishing through lily pads. When my local shop ran out of them sometime in 1980 and told me they were discontinued I was crestfallen. Thanks to the auction site and a flea market I was able to re-supply. The top one is a shelf-queen, but the other two see action. The perch colored one shown on the bottom got me this cutie a few years ago. 7 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted February 12, 2023 Author Super User Posted February 12, 2023 Phish, I think your bass is all-time favorite bass posted at Bass Resource. It is gorgeously colored! Thanks for the lure photo too. I remember the Hawaiian Wiggler. 2 Quote

Here's my first rig circa 1977. Saved up for it all winter splitting cordwood after school. I'm still amazed at where I was able to put that bait while spooled up with only 6lb Stren. It would come through most things and back to me. I lost very few. Daiwa 1000c on an Ugly Stik. Quote

Now, the "oldies" are the songs from the late 70s and into the 80s. Quote

That said I was listening to a "classic rock" station the other day and they played Nirvana. Didn't know what to think. 1 Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted February 13, 2023 Super User Posted February 13, 2023 I fish discontinued Rebels all the time. Vintage? Maybe not, but getting there. 1 Quote
Rockytop Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 My favorite and most fished worm to this day is a 7.5" Culprit in red shad and I throw a Heddon's Dying Flutter, a Devil's Horse, a Jitterbug, Pop R, Lucky 13, AC shiner, and Tiny Torpedo regularly. I've got several old baits I'll pull out if need be. A lot of times you have to go old to show them something new. 1 Quote
Big Hands Posted February 13, 2023 Posted February 13, 2023 I don't do it as an entire theme day sort of thing, but I occasionally break out some locally legendary plastic worms just to see if they still produce (yep, they still do). I still have a box full of hellbenders and waterdogs from (40 years ago) back in my trolling days when I thought consistently catching bass on plastic worms was largely a myth, LOL. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 13, 2023 Super User Posted February 13, 2023 Going to throw a Beatle Spin this weekend. I have caught pretty much everything on this lure. They don't hold up well but they are cheap and fun to fish. 1 Quote
