Have you all had any luck in getting dealer credit for electronics taken off a new boat when you have your own gear to rig? Is it unreasonable to expect the boat price of the same configuration from factory sans electronics? I'm having a hard time judging just how much wiggle room there is and if I'm getting taken.

Yes, kind of. The boat that I agreed to purchase had two Helix 10's, and when I called to inquire about the boat, he told me they were G2N's listed for $1900 each on the bill of sale. He had not installed them, and I simply asked him if I could ship him my own electronics to install, and he said no problem and he didn't even charge for the install. BPS was having their spring sale for the G3N's for $1,600 so that was a no brainer.

So if the dealer hasn't installed his own electronics yet, I don't see why it would be an issue, but if they're already on....they've already spent the time and labor to install it, and then have to uninstall it.

Most new boats come with very basic electronics.  My boat came with a Lowrance Hook series that was color sonar only.  I had my own to put on, so they removed that from my cost, which at the time I think was about 150 bucks.

They installed my electronics on the rig, no charge.

Yeah, I'm basically getting a quote where the takeoff credit is around 65% of retail for the items, and then retail plus high rigging rate for what's being added. On a boat that's not really discounted at that. Thinking I should look at getting the boat with everything removed and rigging myself or just look elsewhere. Thanks for the input.

You shouldn’t have a problem. Just talk to the dealer before you buy or sign anything.

So you're paying 35% of the retail for the old FFS, plus a rigging fee of your electronics to the dealer? Are they already installed? If not, and you think the rigging fee is high, just ask for the boat to come with no electronics and ask for a 100% credit of the retail cost of the old FFS and get it rigged locally. I hate even calling it a credit if it's not installed, basically you're just ordering a boat with no electronics, that's not uncommon.

If it's already installed, and you think 35% of the retail plus the rigging fee is high, call around locally and get a quote to have it re-rigged.

The electronics are already installed. I like the boat model but definitely don't like what they've added onto it. I've had a couple dealers respond with the same -- they now have to use man hours to de-rig the boat and the graphs/TM are now "used" because they were mounted so I basically get a credit equivalent to used private sale.

Was the electronics installed at the factory or at the dealer?   If they were factory installed I suspect you'll have a hard time getting any "real" credit for them.  If the dealer installed them make them a low offer for the boat without them.  All they can do is say no.  Can you order a boat without the stuff?  Offer them that price.

Play hardball with them.  You don't need to yell, or be rude, but tell them if they want to sell you a boat "this is what's going to happen".

Keep in mind the stuff they remove from the boat is now used, they will never get there money back on used electronics. Generally dealer cost is 30-35% below retail, so they wont give you more credit than what it costs them. The more you buy or the bigger the sale, the bigger discount you will get.  Just simple math.  Supply and demand controls all prices, buy when they are overstocked, walk away when boats are few!!

Found the boat already rigged with what I'm looking for and none of what I don't at a great price. Lucked out a little bit. Thank you all for the suggestions and info.
