Gregorym38 Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Is nucanoe any good? I am looking into getting a fishing kayak, and am split between the oldtown sportsman and the nucanoe. I would go with the sportsman in an instant, but the price is a bit steep for the pedal drive. The nucanoe definitely wins in terms of customization, and i can always had the drive system later on what do you think? Quote
Fishingmickey Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I think Nucanoe makes a better Kayak IMHO. Old Town has it's share of followers too. I'm not familiar with Nucanoe's pedal drive system. I demo'ed the Old Town probably five years ago and just felt they weren't as well engineered. FM Quote

Also, what kayk did you get from them? Quote
Fishingmickey Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I haven't got a Nucanoe, I've got a Hobie PA14. I've been kayak tournament fishing since 2014. I've been thinking about putting together my next fishing machine. Nucanoe Ultimate or Frontier is what I am leaning towards. I feel the Nucanoe is built better then the Old Town. FM Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 9, 2023 Global Moderator Posted February 9, 2023 I have not fished a Nucanoe, but when I was looking to purchase, I was torn between them and Oldtown. I was pretty 50/50 on which I wanted and ultimately, it came down to being able to get an Oldtown much faster than I could the Nucanoe back in 2020. Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted February 9, 2023 Super User Posted February 9, 2023 my friend fishes a Nucanoe (10 footer). i think he wants a hobie now. he runs a very inexpensive trolling motor off the back transome and it is a bit of a pain. the handle is tough to reach and lifting the motor is even tougher. all the drive train stuff felt like aftermarket stuff to him, so he didnt buy in. he can stand up in anything. even boat wakes. paddling it sucks. it kills me watching him set up. screwing in the seat, i cant believe he hasnt lost any of the hardware. set up is slow, since he needs to take it completely apart to put the stuff inside his truck. Gregory..my friend..you are all over the place!! hahaha..good luck shopping. Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 9, 2023 Global Moderator Posted February 9, 2023 Nucanoe is very popular here but most people paddle their paddle crafts in places where it’s too shallow for trolling motors . If it’s deep enough for a trolling motor, they’ve got a bass boat Quote
Gregorym38 Posted February 9, 2023 Author Posted February 9, 2023 Do the nucanoe boats paddle well? 1 Quote
VolFan Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I have a Frontier 12 and had a Pursuit as well. The Pursuit paddled fantastic. I have quick release mounts on my seats so I’m not sure what set-up is being referenced above unless he’s taking the mounts off the rails too. The Frontier paddles well once you find the right spot for your seat. It is not a race boat; it is not for someone who hates paddling. It is a great fishing platform that you can custom out and walk all over. I can walk bow to stern tip to tip in mine without problem. It is a fantastic fishing platform and mine is 9 years old. The new ones are supposed to be even better with a better design and more rails. 1 Quote
