you know up until this year i've never caught anything on spinnerbaits. But I've started doing alot of night fishing and they've been doing great at night. And since i've started catching fish at night, i've been able to build my confidence and fish with them during the day.

2 of my 3 largest bass this year have now been caught on spinnerbaits. This is something that i never thought would have happened. Just goes to show that how much difference confidence can make.

Now this is just an opinion of mine, and we all know what is said about opinions ;D, BUT the reason I think so many people struggle with spinnerbaits (and this can be applied to cranks as well) is they see the exposed "non-weedless" hook and don't use them in "bassy" water/cover. True they can be effective in open water, but next time you toss one, put right in the junk, you would be amazed how well they come through it, and I think  the success rate of the bait would improve enough for anyone to gain confidence in. Like I said JMHO

I figured that was my reasoning as well....... then I lost 25.00 worth of crankbaits in the "bassy" water/cover......... lmao :;)

Spinnerbaits are good. Spinnerbaits thrown around wood is real good. I love them. It seems certain places the fish bite better on them than others. If you are fishing tidal rivers and creeks with a lot of shad in the water or for smallmouth on a river, they are hard to beat. Its one of my favorite baits. ;)

Same here.

They are a great search bait, go through cover well, can be fished a lot of different ways.

There is a reason they've been around forever.

Spinnerbaits are probably my favorite hard bait.  I'm suprised how many people on here struggle with them.   Cranks on the other hand i'm horrible with.  I hear how your supposed to bounce it of stumps and such and wonder how the he** you do that without getting it hung up.

I have exactly the same proble. I have a buddy that rarely gets tight on anything so he just goes along and starts throwin cranks in thick weed. The I tried it needless to say after the first cast was the last cast.

One way to NOT lose cranks and spinnerbaits when tossing into the thick stuff is to use braid. Roll your eyes all you want, some days you can pitch a jig or plastic 100 times into a laydown and not even get a sniff, toss a shallow running, wide wobbling crank in there on braid and get smacked. I don't know about you but if I buy $25 worth of crankbaits it's because I want to use them to catch fish...............not sit in my box and look pretty. If I lose a few........hey it's part of the game, they make more every day.

I love the sinnerbait.  I have caught alot of fish off spinnerbaits.   My friend caught a nice size bass when he threw it in alot of muck.   I have thrown spinnerbaits on the outside of the bank and just reel in and get many fish this way.

Guys, get yourself a Bandit 100 Series or any square billed crankbait for timber.  I absolutely LOVE throwing a Bandit 100 through flooded trees.  The square bill defects off cover and it is surprisingly snag free.  Catches fish, too!

A black blade/head/skirt spinner bait will put fish in the boat at Night!   Use big noisy blade(s) and crank it slow in  shallow (8' and less) trashy water.

Team Illinois,

Last week I fished a spinnerbait with a larger single willow and a swimblade type bait.  Spinnerbait 3, Swimblade 0.

I'm pretty sure I have a 1/2 oz boogee bait and even when I counted it down I couldn't crank it at any speed at all without the bait running too shallow.  Have you found anything similar with all the added lift those blades give the bait?

I try to fish a spinnerbait as a contact lure as much as possible, counting down and cranking until I feel the first tick of the weeds and then ripping it out with a sharp pop.  Much like a crank deflecting off timber or rocks.  I couldn't do that with the swimblade bait without fouling the blade or hooks.

I have looked at your bait at karu and think you have a really fresh idea.  The side to side action those swimblades give plus the flash of a willow could be a deadly combination.  I'm going to order a regular spinnerbait in the xtreme bluegill, that skirt looks great.

Edit: Do you guys carry a regular spinnerbait?

Don't forget to throw your spinnerbaits when it's windy. No better time to use them.

I have so many spinnerbaits and I never use them.  The only time I use them is when I go fishing with a relative in NY, they work great there around the pads, but here in TN I never have any luck with them.  I have learned to use the underhand cast to get them close 2 cover but never got any strikes so I gave up on them.  Anyway I do agree spinnerbaits are a great lure and they are easy to use.

spinnerbaits are my confidense bait, anytime of the day any season i know i can catch at least one on a spinnerbait. and you cant say that about most lures.

Yea, I love a spinnerbait.  I have luck with it, even without the "ideal conditions.  I hope the weather stays as forcast for the weekend, cause if I can keep them in my hands all day for this 2 day tournament there will be some people in trouble, and I might get a check.

spinnerbaits are my number one bait, you have to throw them at the right time tho.The very best time is when you have cloud cover, light rain or some wind, they are at thier very best with a ripple on the water. On clear blubird days all you are doing is washing them off.As for crankbaits get youself a plug saver at BPS they cost about six bucks,I'v saved countless dollars with one.If you don't throw into some kind of cover you might as well not throw at all.Hope this helps.
