YeOldeRusty Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Getting a new boat and keeping my trolling motor. I went to remove it today and It seems like all the screws holding it on are spinning freely. It's been about 6 years since I mounted it so I've forgotten how it's put together. The 6 screws in the picture are all loose. Thought they might have been stripped but cannot remove any of them. Any help with disassembly would be appreciated. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted February 5, 2023 Super User Posted February 5, 2023 Should be some nylock nuts behind them. Anything backing them on the inside.....put your hand in and feel around? 1 Quote

They're in the pedestal baseplate and there's no way to get up into or under it without removing it, which I'm trying to do. It could be a nuts spinning behind, but I'm not sure how I would get in there and hold the nut Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted February 6, 2023 Super User Posted February 6, 2023 If you can’t get at the nuts, can you put a wood wedge between the mount and the boat to try and get some friction on the nut? Or worse case can you get a hacksaw blade in between to cut them? 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 6, 2023 Global Moderator Posted February 6, 2023 let me Know if you need any replacement parts for that, I got water in the foot of mine but everything else is still good (foot pedal and cables) there are nuts holding those screws on that are spinning too, maybe you can reach from under the casting deck? YeOldeRusty Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 Appreciate all the help. For some reason I thought they were metal screws holding the motor to the plate. When I undid the plate that the trolling motor is mounted on, I figured out they were actually threaded machine screws with nuts like y'all were saying. Problem solved ? 2 Quote
airshot Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Just using sheet metal screws would have never held it when the motor was in action. Glad you got it solved!! Quote

Glad you got it solved!! Actually the plate that the TM is mounted to was held to the boat with sheet metal screws (good size ones too). It had 2 in all 4 corners of the plate. It's been on there good since 2016 so I think the screws would've been fine. Not saying I would use them in the future, but good to know that if I can't get under it with a nut then sheet metal screws would work. Quote
