Found this reel on sale for 249.99 CAD$, did some research and found its basically a STX Gen4. I currently do not own any Abu Garcia Baitcasters.
Is it worth picking this reel up for this price? Would like to add an Abu Garcia Revo to the lineup.
Seems to have pretty good reviews.

I currently own all Shimanos (Chronarch MGL, Scorpion MGL, Scorpion 70, Chronarch 51mg) and 1 Daiwa Alphas.

Thanks fellas

No, not at that price.  The Ike has round knobs, a graphite handle, and purple paint.  That's the extent of the upgrades over the STX which can generally be had for $180 USD or so and sometimes much cheaper.

Also, if you're paying $249 CAD, then just get on one of the JDM sites and order a Bantam, Zillion, or Metanium for roughly the same money.  Definitely better reels at that price point.

For reference, I have a pair of STX gen 4 here (and a pair of gen 3 and Revo SXes) plus a zillion, met, and chronarch.  I really like the STX but only on sale.  Its not worth $200 at full price and especially not when the Yen is where it is.

I have a somewhat old revo stx, It is a good reel, was actually my very first casting reel and was what I practiced on alot.  Centrifugal micro adjustment reel, although now i actually perfer magnet breaking reels because they arent as noisy. I have now retired it because I feel as though shimano and diawas even caius and cc80, or tatula and slx, or even curado just feel smother and more refined.

Hindsight 2020 If I knew what I know now I'd only buy shimano and diawa reels.

I wouldn't pay that for one, I picked up a used one for half that. I'm not crazy about the brakes, never consistent and seems like they can engage and disengage on their own. It looks cool though, just wish it had a mag brake.

Hard no for me. I’ve had several revos over the years, got rid of them all, and will likely never buy any again.  They’re not terrible reels but Shimanos just blow them out of the water imo. Do like @casts_by_fly suggests and pick up a Bantam from Japan!

Buddy of mine has 1 that I used for a few hours.  Put about 12 fish on it and pitching senkos around laydowns.  It felt like it had plenty of power and I kinda liked the knobs, but other then that I couldnt see why my buddy paid anywhere close to retail for it.  Thats why it's gonna be a no for me dog,

Would a brand new Ike in 6.6 ratio for 139.99 change anyone’s mind?

I don't know, slx xt and tatula are hard to beat, if they brought it down to 100 even perhaps, but slx and tatula are hard to beat. Right now I'm set on casting reels,

That would be steal if someone wanted to try one or was an Abu fanboy.  Does that deal exist?

No. It's basically an STX Gen4. I bought one of the STX's when they came out. Since I fished until I killed the Gen2 version (great reel until it wasn't) and I also have the Winch Gen4 (which I like and still have), I thought it would be a no brainer but something about this reel is just wrong on all levels. Casting, retrieve and drag. I did exchange it and same thing. I think I may have tried one more after that, and no luck.

If there is any indication that you should steer clear of the Ike reel.... I think Tackle Warehouse and Cabela's/BPS had them $100-$125 at Christmas time and they still had stock. They couldn't give them away.

I am not sure what the exchange rate is to Canada but like mentioned above, I would order a JDM reel. There are several great options. The Daiwa Zillion, Shimano Bantam and Metanium to name a few.

yes, I’d take it for that. That’s a good price for what you are getting. It’s a good reel and I’d be more than happy to have one (I really like my gen 4 stx reels).  I think I paid $150 or so for my gen 4 and it’s a good reel at that price.

there were a lot of clearance deals back in the fall.  Leftie stx gen 4 in the lower ratio were $119 on TW for a long time. I considered learning to how reel left handed for that deal.

I would never steer anyone away from a Zillion SV TW recommendation.

I would also avoid dual-brake reels because of the added hardware on top of the spool mass  (Dual brake needs the centrifugal Because of the added centrifugal brake mass)

Out of all my bait reels, my linear-mag ZPI Alcance, which is basically an all-magnesium raced out Revo, remains the Fastest spool I own.
