PressuredFishing Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 Looking for any insight on this rod, blank, handle, guides, and weight for anyone that has used it thanks Quote
Solution NJBasstard Posted January 31, 2023 Solution Posted January 31, 2023 I have that exact rod. I'll be honest and tell you I only fished it for a short while and its been sitting to the side for a couple years now. The reason why is because I purchased it sight unseen and expected a M power rod with fast action. I personally wouldn't put that rod in the same category as the other M rods I've used, including ones from St Croix. All of my ML rods feel heavier than the M Triumph does. Maybe I got a mislabeled rod or something..? Or that's just how this model is suppose to be. I don't know that answer. As far as quality it's a very nice rod. Super lightweight and balanced well with the few 2500 size reels I had on it. Ran braid on it for the season and guides are still like new. I'm not sure what you had planned on using it for, but I'd suggest handling one before you make a purchase. 1 Quote

I'll take a look at it in the store so thank-you for that! 1 Quote
Craig P Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 I had one and I would label it as a good all purpose rod throwing 1/4 - 3/8 ounce jigs, spinners, t-rigs etc. the tip was pretty fast and I felt the backbone held its own. I have since moved onto longer rods and it was collecting dust so I found someone that could use it. FWIW, I think it’s worth it’s price. Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted February 1, 2023 Super User Posted February 1, 2023 The older M power triumphs were essentially a MH and the new ones are closer to their older style ML (1/8-1/2) which is still available in the older and mostly inshore lines, like Avid Inshore Legend Inshore and so on. Although Im a fan of SC they seem to be going with that lighter in power and slower action throughout their FW lines and Im not too keen on that. They have improved the balance of the rods, but in some cases the sensitivity just isnt even close to what it should be on certain models. As far as the triumph goes, its a decent blank with budget guides and decent cork. The quality of the Mexican made rods has improved dramatically since they started with the 1st gen mojo bass line. While the triumphs are decent rods I would implore you to look elsewhere. They cost a little more $, but a Tatula will blow a Triumph out of the water in every category. 2 Quote

JacobB006 Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 I fished this exact rod for about 4 years before upgrading to the Avid and Legend Tournament. I've caught a lot of fish on it. In my opinion it is worth it. At $100 you get a very sensitive, well-built rod that should last you a while. I paired mine with a 2500 reel and it was very balanced. With that said, after throwing an Avid and LTB for a year now, I can tell a big difference between those and the Triumph. If you think you might want to upgrade within the next year or so, I'd say you might as well upgrade now and skip the Triumph. If you think you'll use it for a while, then you might as well pick up the Triumph. It will not disappoint. 1 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted February 1, 2023 Super User Posted February 1, 2023 Yup have that rod. Really like it. I got it specifically for shaky heads but it's a spinning rod so I'll use it for stuff that's light. Extremely light rod and pretty sensitive. Works well with a good range of lure weights. I have no problem getting necessary power from it to drive a hook home, which, on a spinning rod, wont be very thick. Casts really nice. I like it. 2 Quote
Vilas15 Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Ive got one from back in 2015 or so. Does the job just fine. Sensitive enough to catch big walleyes in 30' of water no problem with braided line. 2 Quote
thunderblack Posted February 1, 2023 Posted February 1, 2023 Not your typical Medium Fast that you would expect from SC. The one I fished years back was more moderate fast than fast in my opinion. The premier, avid, legend all seem to be more fast action when comparing. At least from what I can remember. 1 Quote

jitterbug127 Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 I bought a triumph 3-4 months ago. It was a 2 piece for $20. I fished it a few times and didn’t have any problems. I had bought a Fenwick eagle rod a month before, and thought they fished about the same. Buddy of mine really wanted a st croix rod so I sold it to him. Nice rod, but definitely not the usual st croix feel. 1 Quote
