Justbass11 Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 OK, my Minn Kota works but the switch that makes it where it is controlled by the foot pedal runs all the time. I Cannot control the motor with my foot pedal. It runs continuously regardless where I put the switch unless it’s on off of course. Any ideas of what is causing this? And as always all input is appreciated.I just didn’t want to take it back to the dealer even if it’s under warranty. Quote
Dogface Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 I never had that problem with mine but I'd suspect a short if I did. First I'd inspect the cable to make sure it is not crushed or kinked. It it was damaged then the individual wires in the cable could be shorting out. Next I'd pop off the top of the pedal to make sure the connections in the pedal are intact and that nothing is shorting out the connections and that nothing is broke. I had my pedal apart for some reason a few years ago and I remember there were electrical connections and a lot of fragile mechanical connections. If I found nothing then I'd call Minn Kota. Quote

Solution Susky River Rat Posted January 30, 2023 Solution Posted January 30, 2023 I believe you are talking about one of the old cable pedals. The pedal is off in the middle, the constant or intermittent either way. I would look at the button you use on the pedal to make it go. It could be jammed down a little bit. Take a test light and see if you have power on either side of the pedal button. It could be as simple as a loose connection in the pedal too. If it’s not there I’d check the head to make sure nothing came loose up there as well. With as stiff as those cables from the pedal to the head are I would doubt it would be in there. So that’s why i recommend starting with the pedal and head. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted January 30, 2023 Super User Posted January 30, 2023 Change the switch position on the side of the foot pedal to mom (momentary) If it's still running and doesn't shut off check the momentary switch. There could be something holding the button down like some gunk in-between the button and the foot pad body. It could be a faulty momentary switch though. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 30, 2023 Super User Posted January 30, 2023 There could be a malfunctioning micro switch. It’s probably a $10-15 cure. Quote
Junger Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 What model Minn Kota do you have? Know that will help pinpoint potential issues. Quote

That’s the thing with a button it’s engaged or not engaged. It doesnt take much. Quote
