MontclairDave Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 *** Fishing is having a Dobyns promo: 40% back on your purchase of any Dobyns rod. So I am thinking of getting 735c for frogging. But TW has several reviewers noting that these rods’ guides have a tendency to pop out. Having just had a hassle with poor QC with another rod manufacturer, not eager for a repeat. Anyone have experience with the Dobyns Fury line who can comment on whether they’ve had any short- or long-term QC issues? Thanks! Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 29, 2023 Super User Posted January 29, 2023 No issues with guides. My only criticism is that compared to my Falcon Lowrider (same price point), the cork grips look very cheap. There’s no comparison whatsoever. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted January 29, 2023 Super User Posted January 29, 2023 I believe @MN Fisher has some Fury's and is happy wit them. Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 I have a handful of Fury rods and haven't had any issues, but I am not hard on my rods,... Other than the occasional tip in the ceiling fan!! ?? 1 Quote

I have a few of their HDs and for $79 this line is a ridiculously good value. Also have a few Experts—lot higher $ point but I’ve had NO QC issues ever with either line. Maybe I should just stick with what I know. But that 40% rebate is temping… Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 29, 2023 Super User Posted January 29, 2023 I have 4 or 5 of the fury baitcasters and have not been disappointed. For the price they are one of the best rods out there Quote

Chilidog Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 I own several of the spinning and baitcasting Fury rods. I have owned them for 3 or 4 years and I have never had a problem. I think they are a good rod for that price. Quote

BBuck Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 I've got a bunch of Dobyn's Fury rods and have never had an issue with them. I'm not the nicest to them and they have been great. They also have a pretty good warranty. If you can get them under $100, then it is a steal. Quote

I don’t fish braid-to-leader on my Lowrider, so I can’t answer that truthfully. But looking at them, and at other rods I do fish with leaders, I would think so. Quote
SproDD79 Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 I have had a few Furys over the years and have spent a good amonut of time on the water with them, I have had no issues with them. I also seal them with u 40 as soon as I received them. I did wind up selling them because I moved on towards more high end stuff. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted January 29, 2023 Super User Posted January 29, 2023 I've got a fury baitcaste and its a fine rod. Couple seasons in and I have no complaints. For the money I'd much rather have an Ark Tharp series...lighter, crisper and better guides. That said at 40% off the fury is a heck of deal. Honestly for frogs you don't need the extra sensitivity so the fury would suit you just fine. 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted January 29, 2023 Super User Posted January 29, 2023 I have a 735 and have used it a lot over the last several years. Haven’t noticed any QC issues with it. It’s not my favorite rod at it’s price point, but it makes a good frogging stick. I don’t care for it as a flip/pitch or punch rod. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted January 29, 2023 Super User Posted January 29, 2023 While I can't imagine fishing a frog with them, I've never had any issues with any QC or fragility issues with a Fury, as a matter of fact, they are overbuilt if anything. 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted January 29, 2023 Super User Posted January 29, 2023 With the 40% off I'd go with a Kaden over the Fury. That said, I'll take an Ark Tharp or Invoker over any Dobyns up to and including the Champ series. Never fished one, only handled them in the store, but those Falcon Low Riders seem like nice rods for the $$$ too. 1 Quote

The action is too slow, I like my frog rod to have some tip, but lock out midway or higher, with a fury, they bend way down almost to the handle. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 29, 2023 Global Moderator Posted January 29, 2023 I had a Siera 735 that I liked for frogs until I got the 715 Kaden. ( didn’t even consider the Fury) The Kaden has a faster action which I wanted because it triples as my C Rig and swim bait combo. As was said the Sierra’s action is much slower and being a 5 power the options are minimized. Mike Quote
Super User Koz Posted January 30, 2023 Super User Posted January 30, 2023 I bought a Dobyn's Fury a few years ago and I like it. But the problem is that since then I've bought other rods that I like even more. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 30, 2023 Super User Posted January 30, 2023 I've purchased and used quite a few Dobyns rods over the past 10 years (including the model you're considering), and I've never experienced any QC issues. Even if you did experience an unfortunate issue, Gary has a great reputation for taking care of his customers. Quote
