I think they have tightened up the Finesse jig rod over the years. It goes back to when folks complained about the Eakins rod being to soft and slow. I remember having a conversation with Cody at Falcon and he hated that rod. I personally always liked it. But it was meant for 5/16 ball head not football jigs. In fact it was soft enough to throw squarebills on.

The current version especially in the Expert is too tight for my taste.

The Virtus is made from the same mandrel as the original models but the graphite they use seems to firm it up some but not too much. I'd buy that version over the current Falcon everyday. And, it now makes a good topwater rod with mono ,little to much with braid.

So, it sounds rather strange to be asking for power/action recommendations for certain presentations we all fish regularly. Such as, Texas rigs are pretty much a standard MH/F or maybe a M/F (depending on the actual rod’s true power and flex vs. what it’s rated, as one manufacturer’s MH/F doesn’t always match equally with another’s).

But looking at Caras and what Falcon is recommending, I don’t see that. If I wanted a rod for Texas rigs, it looks like Falcon’s recommendation is the Amistad (7’ 3” H/F 7 Power). I have a 7’ 6” H/F for frogs and I can’t see why I’d really want or need a H/F for Texas rigs when 90% of the time I’ve used a MH/F with much success. But I have zero experience with Caras and their H/F may be more in line with another’s MH/F.

If you fish Texas rigs with a Cara, what model do you use/recommend)? I mainly fish ponds no more than 8’ deep, with possibilities of catching bass between 7-8 lbs, fishing 5”-9” soft plastics with 3/16 to 1/4 oz. weights.

I use a H/F Falcon 6'8" Bucoo rod for jigs and T rigs. It's light, tough, has a very good tip & plenty of backbone tp horse big fish out of heavy cover.

Is that an older Bucoo (pre SR series)?  I looked at the 6'8" bucoo SR a few times and handled it a couple times in an academy but ultimately went to the head turner.  If I fished a lot of really tight cover I can see where that or the Herm would be a cool rod to have.  I've thought about the Herm as a topwater rod.

x2. I have the Head Turner and though it’s rated Heavy it’s much more like a MH+ and great for the lures you’re throwing. Shorter length makes it a great pond rod where banks are tight to trees and you want to avoid tangling with overhangs. The Amistad, though I don’t own one, is one rating power higher. Overkill.

Been eyeing (haha) the Eye Crosser for the lures you mention plus also a short frog rod on moderate to heavy cover. Do you frog with it? What type of cover?

I don’t frog with it. If I remember correctly the falcon website says it was designed to be a shorter frog and jig rod. If you wanted a shorter frog rod I imagine it would be good. It does a lot of things we’ll. You can count grains of sand while dragging a jig in shallow water. It’s super sensitive. It’s done everything I’ve tried within its weight range.

The head turner was designed to be a short flipping rod. It's a great spinnerbait rod also.

Just an FYI as I started this thread. After finding out Kistler was 18 miles from my house and getting some advice from Trey, I decided to purchase a Helium HE-TCJ-70MH at a great price. Thanks for all your suggestions. I appreciate it.

Cool, glad it all came to get her for you. I’d probably find myself in trouble if I lived that close.

I’d be there wiggling rods every rainy Saturday

Well, I might be in trouble in the future lol. I was shocked to discover after being here since 2019 that I live that close to a manufacturer of top-shelf bass rods.

And pretty darn close to Lone Pint brewery. I think I’ll have a cold Yellow Rose after I pick up my new rod!

I'm going to jump in here with my own question...

Anyone have the Cara Dragger 2 7-176?  Is it just a longer Amistad with a full cork handle?
