DpDvr Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Looks nice! You wouldn't believe some of the beat up boats I have seen for sale that people ask more than that for. Quote
YoungGun29 Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 I know the only thing is the clear coat, but that's not a big deal for me Quote
Carrington Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 that one looks alot better then the one you had up before. Quote
YoungGun29 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 Yes I know and its ready for the water don't need anything 4 new batteries trolin motor 2 fish finders and depth finder Quote
Carrington Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 what size trolling motor? if its anything under 65lb then i would recommend getting a bigger one. i figured this out at a tournament a few months ago. Quote
YoungGun29 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Posted January 31, 2011 50. What kind of boat you got? Quote
Carrington Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 a 17ft nitro, i got blown around with a 65lb and ended up having to goto a back area to get out of the wind and lost the tourny due to the fact i couldnt fish my main lake stuff i had found. Quote
Pa Angler Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Looks good, I would go with a 24V 80lb thrust trolling motor though. Tight Lines Pa Angler Quote
Carrington Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 def go with a 24 volt system, i know that i ran my edge 65lb thrust for 8 hours on the fastest speed and it didnt die which i thought was amazing. Quote
Carrington Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 its def not 36 volt, and ive never seen a 50lb 24 volt motor, either way you would be in trouble if heavy winds hit. Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 Most likely a 12V, and yes I would take that over the SS Minnow. Quote
unclejed Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 This is a great time of year to buy a boat around here. I bought mine last year, around this time. You don't see many ready to go for that price. Have you taken it out and had the compression tested? I was told to jump up and down on the motor to check the transom, but ofcoarse I would ask the owner to do that. After looking at boats in the KY, Tenn, Indiana, and Ohio area for a couple of years, I would say thats a great deal. (IMO) At that price and year, I would be prepared to put some more money into it but the same thing could be said for a much more expensive boat. Like I was told... Bust Out Another Thousand Quote
Carrington Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 good advice, even if you think it is tourny ready, you should be ready to drop another 2 grand to truly get it tourny ready. im telling you this from experience. Quote

Geez...i dont know about that. I have came to the scales with five in the bag and my tm and finders were down about an hour in. Granted i knew the lake but 2g's is a lot of money! Quote
fishn hard Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Pm me the number for that Laser if you dont want it Quote
fishermantony Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 a 17ft nitro, i got blown around with a 65lb and ended up having to goto a back area to get out of the wind and lost the tourny due to the fact i couldnt fish my main lake stuff i had found. So true! I'm getting killed in the wind with my 55lb! Quote
YoungGun29 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Don't know to much about dropping another 2 grand to be tourney ready lol I fished some tourney last year out of a. 79 sea raider with no seats and just a price of wood for floor. I'm a firm believer in it don't matter what your in if u can fsh our can fish but here's one that I took out today its a 18 laser with 150 that don't need anything ready for water. The Hydra sports batteries aare shot and wouldn't start it. This boat runs great. And for 200 cheaper Quote
Carrington Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 the 2 grand is to make sure you dont die... engine check, fixing anything in the engine, making sure bilge pumps work, safety gear, flares, spare tire, good batteries, it all adds up and from my experience on a few different boats its usually around 2 grand to be fairly sure that its safe. That OB could blow at the next turn of the key. Wiring, plumbing, etc is all susceptable to fail at anytime on the water in a boat that old. I've owned a number of them. $2000 could be spent in the blink of an eye keeping up on a boat that old. You have no idea how any boat 23 years old was used and maintained throughout it's life unless you're purchasing from the original owner. Quote
