I'd been looking at JDM reels for a couple of weeks, but pickings were slim and inventory would drop to zero every time I would decide what I really wanted. This would be my first JDM reel.  This past Sunday night a few great choices turned up on JapanTackle, so I pulled out the credit card and made a decision.

Monday they acknowledged the order.

Tuesday they charged the card and later e-mailed that it would be Fedex'd on Wed 1/25 and to give it 5 to 8 days.

I figured I'd give it a day or two before I checked the tracking number.

I got the package today around noon today. Thursday 1/26. Color me shocked and very happy.

Even when exchange rates normalize, I don't ever see myself buying reels from anybody but Digitaka.

Folks rave about JPL just like Digitaka.....they ruin you in terms of prices, shipping, and overall hassle free transactions.

I bought that Zillion from Digitaka, and was very close to buying that Steez but am just gonna wait until a new SV TW Steez comes out.     That HD is built for pigs.

I looked at Digitaka of course, but they never had both at the same time. The Zillion is large, but it only weighs 7.05 ounces even with those huge knobs on a 100mm aluminum handle.

I'm 72 and done with waiting for the next big product release of anything. If I'm around when the next big thing hits and I'm curious about it then I'll buy it.

It would take TW longer than 8 days just to ship your order.

True dat. I place and order in December and one at the beginning of January and both took almost two weeks because the orders were shipped from Georgia. The warehouse in SLO is about four hours drive from my house. So I guess if you live east of the Mississippi your TW order will getting delivered in record time.

*full disclosure, one (1) jig of the January order did ship from SLO…

Same with Asian Portal, reels come in 4-5 days. They are usually a few dollar less than Digitaka. I use both though.

I usually get my reels from Digitaka in 3 to 4 days. I just got another 22 Bantam xg in 3 days, in fact I spooled it tonight with 20lb J-Fluoro Samura Hidden Concept. I like this line when bottom fishing.

It's speed out the door that makes the most difference in delivery time.  Neither Asian Portal nor JapanTackle are speedy (if you're buying parts, Hedgehog Studio is always fastest out the door).

Both DHL and FedEx seem to be in a 40-hr race to get packages to US.

Both have nonstop flights from Japan to their Customs and distribution hubs, Cincinnati and Memphis.

Amazing that you can get stuff from Japan quicker than anyplace in the US.I ordered a 22 bantam from Japan lure shop on Jan 12 ang got it on the 15th got a vision 110 as a gift can't beat that.

I let JT know the package arrived. Kayo Sonoda's response included the statement "Fedex is amazing...!"

There's also the time zone difference. When they say they will ship on Jan 25 and I get it by lunch on the 26th, I have to remember that their day starts 14 hours before our EST zone day. But still, Japan to Virginia is a long way.

These are really nice reels. Really, really nice. I have two Steez SV TW models from a couple years back to compare them to. After I get back from lunch with the guys I'll put some line on them and cast a little in the back yard. There's 35 or 40 yards of wide open casting room without getting into the woods. I'd go fishing, but it's 10 a.m., sunny and only 40*F. It was in the 20s overnight.

@Johnbt My best delivery so far is 44 hours from placing the order to my front door (time zone included) - that was Hedgehog Studio, who never fails to get an order out first thing in their morning (including Saturday).

Asian Portal ships on specific days each week.  Jun and Kayo usually hold the order for a day or two before they ship.

JapanTackle has not been competitive in reel prices in the past.  Just since the last exchange rate drop, they've really slashed their prices  They're good people, and no problem sending them business..

Before covid, did Digitaka have stock of most things or was it like now?

Digitaka, jdm tackle heaven  and asian portal are no joke about shipping!!

Super fast shipping! Only thing I don't like about JDM Tackle heaven  is the shipping charge went up to a $110.00

For a fishing rod!! Good thing I got mine last year when it was $68.00.
