unflavored is better.
Dark black coffee with nothing added, Guinness extra stout, etc.

There may be hope for you yet... :)

I’m exactly opposite… I have gotten to where I don’t like it sickly sweet if you know what I mean. Just middle of the road sweet. I drink the Chrystal light kind usually, and it’s pretty good. No sugar in it…

A shot of JD and a water back

Lots of people recommend Jack and I don't get it. Much better whiskey for the same money or less. Paying for the name and the cool black label.

Little earlier than me. At 5 I was 'stealing' half bottles of Michelob during block parties - dad always monitored me though. At 11 I made a bet with dad on the golf course...I won and he actually got me a 6-pack of Mich. Rules were I could have one after doing yard-work or some other chore that was physically intensive.

High-school it was rum and cokes, Kendall-Jackson wine and Mich. My roommate in the barrack in the Air Force introduced me to Guiness and I've been a stout fan ever since.

Now-days - Murphy's is my brew, Tullamore Dew and Glenfiddich are my whiskeys and Croft Port is my wine.

The fact that you were getting 6 packs at age 11 explains a lot. I see now.

Try some of the dark or black German beers, been on that train for a month now.

That’s ok, it’s Tennessee sipping whiskey.  I guess I could said “two fingers of JD, neat and a water back. As a young man I was told if you didn’t have a lot of money in your pocket order that or on the rocks. I do prefer my scotch neat as well but hey, to each their own.

*Another ”old man drink”, a Cuba Libra…

I also don’t like jack daniels either but the amount they sell is all the proof they need it’s quality booze

Nothing screams old man drink to me more than “Tom Collins” “Highball” “Seven and Seven” or Whiskey Sour.

My favorite whiskey, Black Velvet, is an old man drink. George Burns was on the advertisements.

You haven't had something so bad it's good until you've had Moxie. The official state drink of Maine.

I have a Ted Williams Moxie advertisement hanging in my shop. Can't believe the only time I've been to Maine (7-8 yrs ago) I never made a point to grab one for novelty's sake.

Pretty much all I drank for 10+ years was the occasional Guiness a few times/yr, but now it's usually bourbon neat Fri/Sat evenings and a low carb beer or two at family get togethers. When I started drinking my coffee black at the start of summer the flavors of bourbon really started appealing to me.

My late friend from Maine always brought Allen’s coffee flavored brandy. We have a few bottles we are aiming to crack open one day, have a party and tell old tales

RIP Geoff

Moxie used to be better. I had a very bitter taste. Coca Cola took it over and changed the formula to make it more amenable to the general public. Same taste but not nearly as good.

because of health reasons, i can't drink very much at all, and haven't for  20 years. but when i do drink something with alcohol in it, it's always warm sake. i like the flavor,  and i have a nice sake set that  came from osaka, a gift from ex #2's parents. there isn't alot of variety available here, so i usually buy black & gold.  everything else i've tried in my local store is...less than good

I've only had sake a few times at nice sushi places. Jury is still out on if I like it or not.

it's pretty common for even those places to serve the cheap stuff, because most folks over here don't know what good sake is. i wouldn't know myself, if i wasn't taught.  it's also why it's almost always served warm.  it hides some of  the unpleasant aspects of the cheaper stuff.  at the end of the day, it's still wine.  it's just made from rice instead of grapes.

I’ve tried to like sake. We drink tons of wine and like you said, it’s just another type of wine. Our friends did the wset sake course (plus wset level 2) and he loves sake. We’ve done tastings, pairings at Michelin restaurants, and all sorts of stuff. Some of it I can tolerate but given a choice I’ll never choose it. For me, too many choices in wine to pair with about anything you could ever want.
