What is that?

I like spinnerbaits but am having a difficult time catching anything on a spinnerbait, all the way down to a beetle spin. But they sure do look cool.

Paddle tails with a underspin do really good in saltwater for people, so how much different would a skirtless spinnerbait be.

I'm not sure if the fish are drawn to the blades or the plastic trailer, and I know some fish it with no trailer and just the skirt. So I'm thinking blade over trailer. So why not try tipping the spinnerbait with bait, now I have real bait, and the blades to give it action......I typically do good saltwater fishing skirted jigs with bait so this might work. But I'm really thinking saltwater is my best chance for a spinnerbait bite.

Skirtless, if I'm using live bait, I'm doing it on a hook or jig head.

I'm thinking dead bait, like tipping a spoon with a minnow head.

Same idea, with few exceptions, bait doesn't need adornment, you aren't trying to fool fish or trigger a reaction, if you are doing it right, it wants to eat it.

Hank Parker did an episode where they took the skirt off spinnerbaits and loaded a Berkley "The Deal" on the back that was vertical and simulated a baitfish.

I haven't tried it yet, but it looked pretty good.

Lunker Lure Triple Rattleback Vibratron Spinnerbait

First time I used one it had no shirt, just a little 3 or 4" swimbait.

I have done it a couple of times but had  trouble getting it balanced . The lure came in sideways .  I had a Storm fixed arm spinnerbait that came with a soft swimbait and I wore it out on one trip . Caught so many fish , including a six , that the wire broke .

I have like 10 spinnerbaits some really nice ones and some cheap ones I need to start throwing them more and at the right time we'll see what happens this spring. Definitely have some that are crap and don't run true. The nicer quality ones work correctly. Maybe I should try a war eagle

Playing around with some tackle. I just took those little clip on spinners, swapped out the Colorado for a willow and added a smaller Colorado. Looks nice in the water.

This bottom one isn't mine but I have done the same with a feathered trailer

I'm not sure what I'm doing, I suppose it would fall under a reaction bite, but in saltwater, skirted jig tipped with bait works good for me. I was thinking the spinnerbait would be a similar scenario. But I definitely agree with your statement. I haven't done any live bait bass fishing, (have used dead bait) but I hear live bluegill is the way to catch the big ones.

Zman makes a single Colorado finesse Spinnerbait that I throw often in clear water.

I've thrown it with and without a skirt but never without a trailer.

A trailer like a Keitech swimbait provides the resistance to stabilize the Spinnerbait.

Nothing in this world troubles me more than a Spinnerbait running sideways ?

It is known to trigger conniption fits in a significant number of bass anglers.

Bluegill, shiners, minnows, crayfish, pretty much anything that fits in their mouth.

I just remembered this morning that my fishing partner on Badin once told me that he liked to use a single spin colorado with no skirt, swimbait substituted, as a wake bait when the fish would not eat a buzzbait during times he suspected that there should be a topwater bite. He said if they would not eat the buzzbait, they would eat that. I fashioned up a spinnerbait this morning with two small deep cup colorado's that will spin tighter and faster to the frame and removed the skirt and added swimbait like the guy said.

Later into the season, if I catch some nice fish on this spinner, I'll be sure to share.
