bit-little Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I recently purchased one of the new Lowrance downscan units and was wanting some opinions on where to place the transducer. Should I have it mounted to the trolling motor or run somewhere else? Until now, I have always fished using just a flasher, so i want to make sure I do it right. Thanks for the input! Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 Put is where you're going to be using it the most. Now, if your talking about the Structure scan unit you add to your HDS unit, both transducer (structure scan and sonar) should be no more the 12 inches apart. Quote
bit-little Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 W2S Thanks for the reply. I should have stated that I will mount it up front on the deck. It is its own unit not hooked up to an HDS. I know aa coomon place for the transducer is on the troller, but didn't know if there were any other/better options? Quote
Todd Driscoll Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Yes, for the stand-alone Mark/Elite DSI units, if running the unit at the bow, mount the ducer on the trolling motor. But, a trolling motor bracket does not come with the unit. You can order one at LEI Extras, part # 10261-001 http://www.lei-extras.com/store/search.asp?SearchType=Unit&Unit=Elite%2D5+DSI Quote
bit-little Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Thank you for the input. I would have had no idea about the bracket as well. Quote
Bigbarge50 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 What if you run a transom mounted trolling motor? I also got the lowrance downscan mark VI and run only a transom mounted motor..... think it is still good to mount in the back? Quote
Todd Driscoll Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Assuming you also have an outboard engine, I would mount the ducer to your transom. That way, you can view downscan while you are fishing and while you are running the outboard. Quote
Bigbarge50 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I currently do not have an outboard..... though working on making that change in the future...... On the transom, which would naturally still be in the back, do you think I am really missing out on anything with it in the rear? I would think not, but my first unit and figure there is no shame in asking those with more experience with such things. Quote
