I love flipping laydowns with a 3/4 oz. Jig. Feeling the strike then trying to get them through the branches is so much fun. You just have to hammer them and go for it. I just a 7-6 heavy with an extra fast tip and a 8.3 to 1 reel. This brings good results and you land most of them.

I’m with dodgeguy! Nothing more fun than doing battle in the middle of lay downs, docks and heavy weeds

That says it all!

Has anyone used the Expride 76 extra heavy for flipping if not what’s your favorite flipping rod?

Since I do little shallow water fishing during day time, more at night, a quote from the late Dee Thomas “shallow bass are biting bass” and proved this by introducing Flipping to to bass fishing on his way to the fresh water hall of fame.

Flipping in Fl. is like playing basketball in Kentucky,it's mandatory. I carry 3 sticks at all times with me 2- 7'6" rods and an 8 footer. all were made by me.8 footer is my dedicated punching rod. the other 2 are for everything else flipping and pitching.

I don't get on water that's typically good pitching, but I do cast heavy grass/swim jigs with the EX7'6XH A.  I'm a fan of the rod.  It's balanced, sensitive, with a nice tip and crazy power.  I don't go light with it often and if my memory is correct, the tip needs around a 1/2oz total to load up.

Intresting, im leaning towards a loomis rod because ive snapped a few rods flipping and shiman has a one year warranty while the loomis has a lifetime.

That's valid and makes sense to me.  I threw caution to the wind and spent most of the summer chucking a 6" burrito on it, which I think is close to 2.75oz.  So far it's been resilient.

Even though it's still winter & everyone is talking light slow moving techniques, it's time to dust off your Rat-L-Traps.

While ripping Traps out of grass is highly productive I'm about a third of the way back in creeks fishing brush & timber.

Yeah, ya gonna get hung up but try ricocheting your lipless of standing timber.

Here in Florida, most all we have is shallow water.  Back in my tournament days, I carried 8-10 rods in my boat and my storage compartments were so full of stuff they rivaled most tackle shops.  These days, I could care less about catching bass under three pounds and two outfits is all I need.   My best producer is a spinnerbait in pad fields and around boat docks. I slow roll the bait back in the pads and it rarely fails to produce what I am looking for.  Some of our docks hold big fish too.   I may not catch a limit, but one big fish a day is all I need to make me happy.  If that fails, I pull out my flipping stick.  It's a rare day when one or the other fails to put bass in my boat.
