Super User Bird Posted January 21, 2023 Super User Posted January 21, 2023 Never threw more than a 5" Senko. Will follow. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 21, 2023 Super User Posted January 21, 2023 Very popular black w/blue flake or June bug for weightless wacky rigged at night out west and as a jig trailer in Mexico. Tom 3 Quote
camman Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I occasionally throw it on the Delta or Clear Lake. I use a 5/0 EWG hook Texas rigged and weightless. I think the only times I’ve thrown the 7” has been in tournament situations when I’m targeting 1 big bite….the largest fish I’ve caught on one has maybe been 5lbs so not the best. 1 Quote
Derek1 Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I’ve thrown one a couple times weightless t rigged. I really didn’t have the right rod for it then. maxed out my MH rod. I caught the same 1-3 pound fish as normal. It definitely has potential to catch bigger fish. But don’t be afraid to throw it cuz you’ll still catch some. Even if the bite is slow. rigged up like that. you’ll find your self quite entertained in your own personal casting Olympics. That sucker will go a mile. 5 1 Quote
GRiver Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I’ve fish them Texas rigged with a 4/0-5/0 worm hook and wacky rigged both weightless. Color, I guess is relative to what kind of water you’re fishing. I keep green pumpkin, junebug, and bubble gum on stock all the time. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 21, 2023 Super User Posted January 21, 2023 I use them sometimes. Nice thing about it is I can cast it a quarter mile. Bad thing about it is I can't set the hook a quarter mile away. I miss a lot more bites with them than I do with 5 in. 3 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted January 21, 2023 Super User Posted January 21, 2023 A big 7” senko wacky rigged used to be one of my top night time baits. I got a way from throwing it for some reason but it was always very productive for me once the sun went down. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 21, 2023 Super User Posted January 21, 2023 AS @WRB noted, the 7 inch Senko can be a be player south of the border. Both Texas rigged, and as a jig trailer. (I don't do wacky). But they are so soft we would run out way too fast. Switched to the Z-Man Giant TRD as soon as the came out. Problem solved. Catches fish and 2 bags last as us the whole week. We also fish them on a jig head and do some real damage. https://www.zmanfishing.com/cms/products/giant_trd/ A-Jay 3 Quote

You’re speaking my language though with Zman, big fan and have a ton of their stuff. I’ll have to check those out, was hoping they’d be a little bigger but worth a bag or two to try. Also like the idea of on a jig head…the mega Ned? Quote

Also like the idea of on a jig head…the mega Ned? The Giants TRD is just a little shorter than the 7" Senko but is Really Fat. I can't say the we're close to anything like the numbers @Team9nine put's up on just one bait, but it surely lasts longer and i able to catch & land more fish than any other stick bait I've ever thrown. This is all the Same bait in this clip (on a jig head) https://youtu.be/tH_jBIHrN3s?t=1221 A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 21, 2023 Super User Posted January 21, 2023 Five to a bag. Yeah, I bet they go quick. Especially if little fellers nip ‘em by the tail. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 21, 2023 Super User Posted January 21, 2023 I Texas Rig em weightless & fish em like a Fluke. 5 Quote

Hoping for some deep water daytime/nighttime success with the large profile floating off the bottom. scott 1 Quote
Friggs Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 I use the Bass Pro Shop 7 inchers. Cheaper the Yamamoto. And according to either Jimmy Houston or Rolland Martin, can't remember which one I heard say this on a video, Yamamoto make Bass Pro Shops Plastic. But they are a different constancy. Seem to last a little longer. I found the Z-Man Giant TRD. Once I save up some money I will try a bag of them. They might be my new Go To. Quote

Never tried the 7" but I have some just in case. Caught some fish on the 6" just like the 5". What I have found is all my big senko fish are caught on the 4". Allen Quote
Big Hands Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 'Matt & Tim' have a good video up showing underwater footage of several different styles, sizes and rigging methods of 'stick baits' that's worth a watch. Interesting for me to see that a wacky style jig head equipped stick bait falls at nearly the identical rate that a weightless wacky stick bait does. I would not have thought that to be the case. 1 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted January 22, 2023 Super User Posted January 22, 2023 The only reason I fish 7 inch Senko's is they don't make an 8 inch one. They are expensive, but how much is a 10 pound bass worth? They work great for me the couple hours a day, when the wind is calm while switching directions, on my favorite big bass lake. I cast them to suspended bass in timber. I rig them weightless weedless, let them bounce their way through the tree limbs, and hang on. 3 Quote

I will admit to being curious about these myself. 3 Quote

Super User PhishLI Posted January 23, 2023 Super User Posted January 23, 2023 I like the Owner 6/0 hook shown in the pic. Typical 5/0 shown for comparison. Swap out the CPS spring that comes with the hook for a Large. Makes a big difference. It won't pull out. Owner Twistlock Light Hook - Tackle Warehouse Owner CPS Centering Pin Spring - Tackle Warehouse Shown is the wacky tool for the job, IMO, if you like O-rings. You may need to go to a hardware store to get the right size. 7/16" I.D. is about the correct size for this worm. You do not want them tight. Just snug with this particular worm. Crisscross the rings and do not nick the worm when hooking the bait. It might simply split in half on your first cast if you bomb it. Also, some colors are less durable than others. The O-Wacky Tool "The Brute" - Tackle Warehouse The #11 size work well for 6" GY Senkos and 6" BPS Stick-Os The O-Wacky Tool O-Rings 25pk - Tackle Warehouse 2 Quote

Or maybe toss a pebble in it's general direction from afar? Inquiring minds want to know. . . about the interaction with said bear and especially about rigging the stick bait to fish it in the trees. If it's just not a good idea, I understand, and I will thank the bear for sharing as much as it did, and proceed to learn the old fashioned way. Quote
