The Core 100MG (and MG7) were/are the best reels Shimano made.  Anything on that D-Series platform was a winner...Chronarch D5/D7, Metanium MG/MG7 (and DC versions), and the original Excense DC.

Another gem is the 1st generation of the Scorpion DC's...The silver ones on the E-Series platform.

All these reels are absolutely viable today and IMO outperform many of the new reels on the market.

The only baitcasters I currently have are an SLX, LFS, and Tatula CT. The SLX is the smoothest by far and the farthest casting. My next reel will probably be an SLX XT, Curado K, or Curado 150 MGL.

My very first Bass reel!! I think I got this from a local store at downtown Los Angeles back in 2004. Sedona 2000.

And my all time favorite  chronarch 51

That I got around 2005.

I still regularly use 2 First generation Sedona spinning reels (28 years old).

The Citica E is the best reel out there for the buck. Aside from bearings in the handle (big deal) the only difference between them and Curado and Chronarch E's is a bearing under the drive shaft. Citica E's are regularly 40-60 used. Buy a smooth drag kit, budget carbon handle and bearing for the drive shaft and you have a reel for 70-90 all in that performs better than ANY current 100 to 150 reel. Without paying 150-200 for a green or white version with a sexier name. (OT the OG Daiwa Fuego is very much the same way).

Well, technology changes and generally improves. Twenty year old stuff doesn't compare

with new gear.

I'm the Shimano hater, with more Shimano reels, here.

The 51 and 51S are waaaaay better constructed than the CQ BFS.

Yes in my opinion, i believe that they cast farther and are smoother than daiwa.

Only over casting distance and it's not a solid difference.

But Daiwa reels quality just humiliates Shimano.

Shimano and Daiwa 'fanboys' put together are but a mere carbuncle on the posterior of ABU Garcia Ambassadeur fanboys.

Have you used any of the alphas reel as the maker of a Shimiano group I’m interested in it  lol ps daiwa will outskip shimano any day

Remember the in late 90s and early 2000s when people had higher end Shimano spinning reels bind up when wet? they used to call them Shimbindo's lol

I believe they have corrected this problem but I heard they were in denial about it for years lol

I had the CT SV and now have the ASC and the round CT SV (Millionaire CT SV). Superb reels. The classical ones were favored by brazilian snook anglers.

I fished Shimano throughout the 90s and NEVER had a binding problem of any kind.

The fondness of delivering crappy high-end stuff was always there, LOL!

Denial is a must-have thing when being a Shimano gear enthusiast.

I'll admit the first thing that leaves on my Shimano spinning reels is the line roller.

The only reason it needs seals is because the roller is chromed bronze.

It's anathema in the salt - saltwater in, steam out - cupric chloride from brass and salt rusts single stainless ball bearing.

vs. MTCW titanium, dual BB, no seals

flushes with water or oil

Daiwa uses Tica TiN plasma-coated line roller that doesn't need this.

Wholesale ruling-out other makers is the boy w/blinders thing.

I would call them different rather than one being better than the other. I have rods and reels from both companies that I like a lot. I think both have rods/reels that excel at a particular niche or pricepoint and others that don't do as well for the price they sell for. Both have put out absolute turkeys as well as standouts. Some products work better for some than for others and that could be based on the way one person uses them rather than a an actual or perceived shortcoming. It's great to have choices, and they aren't the only ones.

the daiwa fanboys are scarier

Calling yourself a fanboy is fine. Peaches and cream. Calling other people fanboys is cringey and might not end well. It's impolite, even if you polish it up with "LOL". I use and appreciate the strengths of too many different brands to technically be called a fanboy as that word suggests mindless single brand loyalty. Still, when I see the word, I wanna go on a rampage. Just sayin'. LOL.

It's easy to list all the *** Shimano has done over its gear.

1) The classical Shimbindo

2) The ''dartanium'' discs drags (fancy name for cardboard)

3) Micromodule I duralumin gearing (''Metanium Buzz'')

4) Plastic worm gears and pawls (early wear, with just few uses): affected the most recent reels, like the new caius, bassrise...

5) Lower quality, cheap AR clutch in the high-end Stella.

If Daiwa or Doyo had did something like the listed above, I would bash it, just like I do with Shimano.
