Explain please

I owned the first Calcutta DC model back in the day, it was was complete waste of money even when measured up against half the cost Team Daiwa models.   Super finicky, required way more tinkering than a reel should while on the water.   When you finally dialed it when it a heavier aerodynamic bait, it would outcast anything made at the time.

I have no idea how they are today, but after buying some new Daiwas I really hate to see them fix what's not broken.

They did it better tbe 1st time around with that very same platform. Magforce 3d.  This new dc reel is a z2020 with a DC system added.

I haven't used my Magforce 3D reels a lot, but it is dang near impossible to backlash one.  However, as a pro, I'm sure I can if I try hard enough.  AND without catching a limb behind me.

It seems a bit over priced at 1000 dollars and you have to charge it and shimano has the slx dc for like 189 so i really dont know.

To each their own. Not for me personally. I can appreciate what they are going for but seems unnecessary.

No doubt the young guys, who can afford them.............................

I ended up with a couple DC reels I bought off a friend who just didn't take to baitcasters.   Both of my Grandsons marveled over my "reels with computer chips".    I gave them one each.   They've eventually be scratching to get one of the Daiwa "computer" reels.  Especially since you have to charge it.

It's a nice reel with nice tech but seems counterproductive???

I could see the 1st gen DCs having some issues for sure, sucks to have a good reel like that with a bad braking system.  I have an SLX DC, and while its not the end all some people make them out to be, theyre good reels for chucking and winding.  Casting or pitching short distances, the idc4 system doesnt have the air time to work.  Im curious to see how that SLX 70 DC with the MGL spool does.

The thing that is kind of cool about this and what separates it from Shimano DC reels is with the app it keeps track of all your casting stats for the day. How many casts, casting distance, different braking profiles used and umm...other stuff, sort of like a fitbit for casting. As someone else mentioned it will also allow you to add new braking profiles and whatever else as they become available. This a big bait/saltwater reel.

I owned a DC reel for awhile and to me it was a solution to a problem that I just didn't have. I've never owned a reel that I couldn't control or that backlashed so much I felt like I needed computer assistance. It always seemed completely unnecessary and gimmicky to me. At least this reel adds something new with the ability to keep up with casting stats. That info would be pretty much completely useless to me but I can see how some people would like it. As of now it is JDM only so it might not even show up in the US. This reel is not for me and not something that will ever even be on my radar.

Shimano builds a DC reel that self charges with use over ten years ago & Daiwa just now brings out a DC reel that requires a 90 minute recharge? That's innovative!

This reel offers way more than Shimano's DC reels and is innovative, even if 98% of bass anglers won't find it useful or necessary.

I love how it looks, if only they got rid of the DC and made it smaller like a Tatula 150 replacement I'd be all over it.

You can get this reel without DC.  It's called the z2020 or z200.

Tying it to a phone app will end up dating it sooner rather than later. You've got guys on here using 30+ year old reels and they're still going strong, how long will that phone app be supported?

Say what you want about Shimano's DC system (I'm not in love with it, personally), but at least it's pick up and go. No app, no charging, all the tuning is right there on the reel.

Abu tried putting out a rod recently that was paired to some phone app, I noticed those ended up on bargain closeouts real quick.

If this is right up someone's alley, far be it from me to tell them how to spend their money or enjoy this sport, however.
