Just my opinion, but I think they may have gone too far. I understand that some techies may like it, but not for me.

The last thing I want is a fishing reel that needs to be linked to my dang phone! And have to recharge the reel everytime I wanted to use it. I like that I get away from those things while fishing. Don't need my phone in every aspect of life

My Shimano DC reels don't need any of that, and honestly,...  I don't see the need for them either.

Cool technology and appreciate them thinking out of the box, but not my thing and no interest

No doubt the young guys, who can afford them or are sponsored by Daiwa will cause these reels to make the scene in the USA.   Those of us who started out with cane poles will unlikely reach that summit;  many still don't know how to use a smart phone app., if they even own a smart phone.  I'm a Daiwa fan, but here is where I will draw a line.

Oh heck yes.  This appeals to the tech driven anglers who wanted high end gear when they were younger but got priced out.  Bait monkey activated.

Not to be forgotten the Googan Squad is making their line of schlocky repainted KastKing plastic crapola in a box in lit colors.  Life is about choices.

Dunno about that. It's very pricey, and built to chuck aerodynamic baits from 1-3 oz. It's intended to be a salt bay reel as far as I can tell.

Unlike the Shimano DC reels, this one needs to be charged.  90 minute charge time gets you about 700 casts.  I like the idea, but really dislike the fact that it needs an umbilical at times.

It'll probably appeal more to people just getting into the sport who typically value casting distance over accuracy.  I'm betting it's more geared towards Millennials and Gen Xers (who may still be young to you?).  But the youngest generation, the Gen Z kids, are kind of anti-technology for stuff like this.  They grew up with everything being connected to the internet for no reason and having a 2-3 year lifespan before it needing to be replaced, so they tend to appreciate simplicity and durability more.  They're actually the largest consumers of luxury goods right now (of course it helps that housing is so expensive that most of them are forced to live at home as adults which gives them lots of discretionary income).  But they're learning to appreciate simple quality over gadgetry and features.  They grew up in a cheap, throwaway world and don't really like it.  Then again, they're not really the age that gets into fishing either.

Yeah Shimano made it that I won't ever buy a DC reel ever again.

Daiwa shouldn't mess with perfection, there is nothing wrong with their new flagship line of reels, nothing.

Oh I am gonna get one for sure, not because I need a fancy "cool" reel to fish, but because as a tackle junkie and a mildly enthusiastic Daiwa fan, I am so curious how it works/performs .

shut up and take my money GIF

I love Daiwa reels, but this one is going to be something I definitely pass on. Charging my reels does not need to be included in my pre tournament tackle prep.

Can you still get vacuum tubes for those?... :)

Lol.  Here's a (translated) line from the text,,,

"In addition, it is a bait reel that needs to be turned on when using it, and when the power is turned on, the start-up sound and LED will light up, creating a sense of exhilaration."

I hate when my microwave beeps at me and I can barely remember to charge my phone.  It's like this thing is perfectly designed to irritate me.

I am most curious, as other fans apparently, about how the DC brake works. Daiwa mentions you can download different braking profiles to fine tune the reel's brake force, thus the different light colors.  I don't care about the light, but if in the future Daiwa allows users to design their own braking profiles on this reel, that limitless potential gets me excited. It'll be like game modding for reels.

Looking at it will be more expensive, more electronics, more things that can break/fail.

everybody still gets the distance thing wrong - there are some places I need to fish 130' to catch fish.

But most of the time, read increased distance as reduced effort and improved accuracy and cast reliability.

My Synchro vacuum tubes cast 3 g as well as Daiwa Silver Wolf.

This is actually something I thought would have been a cool addition to dc reels.  Glad to see daiwa do it but I'll wait for it to mature.  I like that they dusted off the old z platform for this one though.
