BassChaser57 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I hope to be getting a new boat and will be selling my current pride and joy but do not know what price to ask for it. I have a 1996 Stratos 285XL with a 150 Johnson. It is 18 1/2 feet long. Dash Mounted Flasher, Eagle 500c (depth and GPS) mounted at the dash and an Eagle 480 at the front. I have kept her inside and NEVER had a bit of trouble with her. I have onboard chargers, 2 new bilge pumps, 45lb MinnKota Trolling Motor. Livewells both work properly, and Stainless Steel Prop which was just reworked. With just me, very little gas and no tackle I have had her at 68MPH. Loaded she runs in the 50's. EVERYTHING on her works and the motor has ALWAYS started and ran great. On a scale of 1-10 the paint is about a 9 and the interior/carpet about an 8. She is pretty enough my wife named her Sparkles. Trailer is single axle with new tires and bearings. I was wondering what might be a fair price for my boat. Thanks Quote
Super User senile1 Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Go to this link and enter your boat information. This should get you in the ballpark. http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 You can get a good starting point by looking it up on the NADA guides. Then go from there depending on how much you think your accessories are worth. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Boats like that sell for around $4K up here. Quote
bowfish12 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Price it as close to possible on NADA, and then get on searchtempest.com and search for the same boat as your's within a 300 mile radius. See the condition as other people's boat compared to your boat and what they are asking. Going off what you have said the condition to be, I would say you should be able to get $5000, so price accordingly. Quote
Carrington Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 around here that boat would go for 6k+ depending on the condition of the interior it could be worth upto around 9k Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Haha! Sparkles! That's cute. Sounds like a nice boat, though. Probably get $7500 all day around here for it. Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 5k to 6k. Need to see pics Quote
zaraspook_dylan2 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Take a look at this link, this boat looks very similiar to what you describe and is going for 11.9k- http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-boats-watercraft-powerboats-motorboats-1995-Astro-18DCX-gorgeous-bass-boat-w-Evinrude-150-W0QQAdIdZ254589623 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 Here's one that's exactly similar, and it hasn't sold: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bass-Boat-Trailer-1996-STRATOS-285XL-Johnson-150-HP-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem35af6feae6QQitemZ230576614118QQptZFishingQ5fBoats What's with the high prices? I just looked at NADA, and it says $4400 retail. What am I missing? Motor? Anyway, boats like that are a dime a dozen around here, definitely shop around, and get it checked out by your mechanic. Super User Tin Posted January 27, 2011 Super User Posted January 27, 2011 That one also has more features than yours (Hot Foot, Pro Trim, ect) and has the bigger Minn Kota. On our 285XL we put the 36v Fortrexx 101, go big or go home. 8-) Quote
ctf58 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 A friend of mine has one, sounds about like yours plus a few other things. His had a 2006 Johnson 150 with maybe 50-75 hours on it. he is asking $6,000 firm. He has had it for sale for about a year by word of mouth, no advertising. No takers yet... Quote

Yeah, you missed the motor's value on nada which would add another $1,200 and the trailer which I couldn't pull up but could be another $1,200. That would bring the price up into the same range. Also, it doesn't matter what the asking price is on used boats, its the price of the ones selling that counts. This one would probably sell for $6k if it was on the market for $7k. Just my opinion. Ok, the motor, then. But the trailer was in the price. And, that's what I was getting at. Nothing around here is selling for that high - trust me, I'm looking right now. And another thing to figure in is that southern boats get way more UV exposure and wear and tear. Northern boats sit in storage for 6 months. Quote
Tuckman Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 5-6K max...but, I bought a mint '94 285xl for less then that 5 years ago. Quote
