GoneFishingLTN Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Looking for a replacement for the rage bug since I ran out would the missile d bomb do the same thing or close? Or do you think there just isn’t enough action in the d bomb bait Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted January 19, 2023 Super User Posted January 19, 2023 Two different animals there. The D-bomb has more of a glide on the fall and although the legs kick, it's more of a subtle kick. If you're looking for a direct replacement, you might want to look at the Missile Chunky-D instead. 3 1 Quote
GoneFishingLTN Posted January 19, 2023 Author Posted January 19, 2023 Just trying to use up some stock I have before buying more baits. How about a rage craw? Yum bad mama would be a glide also right Quote
Finessegenics Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Maybe it doesn't really matter, but the rage bug has those flailing appendages which move a lot of water. D-Bomb won't do the same, the appendages do not kick. A rage craw is even more aggressive and has a slimmer profile but why not? Quote
RHuff Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 No they are different baits.. I’ve always been under the impression to use a more subtle bait like a D-Bomb or Beaver Style in colder water as the bait glides or imparts less action… And use a rage craw, something with flappers that kicks aggressively for more action in warm water… Until I watched a video of Greg Hackney explaining it pretty simple.. Subtle beaver style for clear water and aggressive craw flapper style in dirty water… Mr. Hackney has made a ton of money fishing for a living and I have not… so… 3 Quote
GoneFishingLTN Posted January 20, 2023 Author Posted January 20, 2023 Everyone was right about the d bomb how about this, I think I found a closer bait the biffle bug. Thoughts on this one? Quote
RHuff Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 You could try it and see......the only downside I see to it is that the body of the biffle bug is a lot larger profiled so it would probably make using it as any type of trailer (if you use trailers) a little tougher as there would be more plastic that the hook would have to penetrate... Siebert Outdoors Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 The two are not the same type of action bait. They both have their place like RHuff stated. They both are my 2 favorite creature baits. I have the Dbomb marked down right now and I also have Rage bugs. Both can be bought with my BR10 discount code for 10% off. 5 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted January 20, 2023 Super User Posted January 20, 2023 I also use Both in place of each other like jig trailer, free rig the only difference for me is presentation faster on rage bugs and slow down on dbomb. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted January 20, 2023 Super User Posted January 20, 2023 I picked up D-bombs and mini d-bombs 2 winters ago when there was a big sale locally (I think $2 a pack?). As a do-nothing jig trailer I like them. They are pretty compact and don't add any bulk which is great for slipping through cover. The mini D-bomb on the back of a bitsy bug or sniper jig is a great little finesse jig for shy fish. However, I don't see any real benefit over many other similar trailers. I also struggle to get them threaded up a hook straight with as little solid body is actually there. Quote

I fish a beaver style bait most of the time when fishing bottom contact, regardless of temp. That natural looking glide produces year round. I save the action trailers for really dirty water, and on swim jigs. 2 Quote

Thoughts on this one? The Biffle Bugs kind of like a sweet beaver with 2 appendages that have a subtle kick. Its an outstanding bait in all sizes, but its a diff bait then a Rage bug action wise. Maybe I just stopped using those glide fall baits as much as I should 1 Quote

I barely throw a jig in cover anymore, opting for the Sweet Craw on a flippin rig instead. I can fish that thing through the nastiest of stuff. I'll switch to a jig on offshore stucture. Quote
Mr. Aquarium Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 I love t riggin both of those! I love the d bomb and the rage creatures and craws Quote
Big Swimbait Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 I love the D Bomb on a Free Rig. The glide just works for that technique. My thoughts are bass have seen GP and Black/Blue creature baits until they just ignore it. I know they will still work but once I started using Desert Storm and especially El Diablo my bites went way up. 1 Quote
