Super User Hammer 4 Posted January 12, 2023 Super User Posted January 12, 2023 We've lost another Guitar Icon. Jeff passed way to soon at 78. IMHO he was so under rated. He will sorely missed. 4 2 Quote
Super User Bird Posted January 12, 2023 Super User Posted January 12, 2023 We certainly did. I got to see him, Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen " quitar legends " in Atlanta Georgia.......many years ago. 4 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted January 12, 2023 Super User Posted January 12, 2023 I was a big fan. Before Rod Stewart made it big he was the lead singer in the Jeff Beck Group. They got back together in 1985 to record this classic. https://youtu.be/yC_j_dzkaVE 3 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted January 12, 2023 Super User Posted January 12, 2023 Yeah, such a tragedy. One of the best, if not the best rock guitarist. I didn't spend as much time listening to him as some other guys, but nearly every time I did, I found myself drifting away from listening to the music, and thinking (and sometimes exclaiming out loud) "How is he doing that?". Such a unique sound and technique, and he did it his way. He influenced a lot of players, but he was nearly impossible to imitate. RIP. 4 Quote

Super User Mobasser Posted January 12, 2023 Super User Posted January 12, 2023 RIP Jeff Beck. One of the very best IMO. Nobody played or sounded like him. 4 Quote
Eric 26 Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I too was fortunate enough to see him back in my younger days, the equal billing was he and Stevie Ray Vaughan at the UIC Pavillon in Chicago. Together they played a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s voodoo child that that to this day I’ve never seen or heard done better. RIP Jeff Beck?? 4 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 12, 2023 Global Moderator Posted January 12, 2023 I first learned about Beck in history of rock and roll class during college. I had heard all the songs growing up but never knew much about all the guys in the bands until then. What a journeyman! 4 Quote
Chris Catignani Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 I loved Beck with the Yardbirds. Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart (Jeff Beck Group) was something else....my favorite rock band of all time. Originally, I started listening to Jeff Beck when I was in high school with Blow by Blow ....and then with Jan Hammer. I was blessed to have seen him about three different times. There's 1,452 guitar pickers in Nashville...but one Jeff Beck. 5 Quote

desmobob Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Jeff was one of a kind. RIP. And the way Tal used to fit around that bass is spectacular. ? Her current music doesn't appeal to me all that much, but the woman can play! 3 Quote
Bass Junke Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 Jeff Beck has blurred the lines between rock and jazz. Is he/was he the best? He is certainly in the conversation. One of my favorites. Just saw him about a month ago at the new venue next to Fenway. Unfortunately he was touring with Johnny Depp. I was in sonic nirvana listening to Jeff. Then Johnny Depp got out there, it went south fast. 4 Quote
Fishlegs Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 It's rare and special when someone can give an instrument that is played so many people a unique voice. Jeff Beck definitely did that. His sound is instantly recognizable among a million guitarists. @Deleted account I could listen to him play Nessun Dorma all day. Thanks for posting that one. 2 Quote
