Super User Darth-Baiter Posted January 11, 2023 Super User Posted January 11, 2023 its always bittersweet. without considering that i am now 10 years older than when i did it last time (time flies!)... my Passport is sadly kinda new looking. i have plenty of stamps in it. and i have lots of blank space as well!! one stamp is from the top of Machu Pichu. i wish i traveled more. lots more. i am going to fish Brazil to scratch that off anything resembling a bucket list. hench the need for a new book. i have 10 new years to batter this new passport. not mutilate it, but put a nice travel patina on it. bitter thinking of my plans i had in my mind 10 years ago. and sweet thinking of new lands to check out upcoming. crazy how 10 years blinked right past me. dang it... Glad I have one. Hope I get to use it a few times. And really hope I'm around and can actually use the next one ! A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted January 11, 2023 Super User Posted January 11, 2023 I let my personal passport expire a couple years ago and instead renewed my DL with an Enhanced DL which allows me to make land and sea crossings across international borders. The only place I've been outside the country (other than for work which is a diplomatic passport) is when I go to Canada to fish. I believe there is a way to request to have the renewal process sped up too - I think its referred to as "expedited." Not sure how much quicker it gets done though. Quote

It is a little faster but you will pay extra for it. Almost had to do that once. I also have an enhanced DL and I think it becomes mandatory in my state this year in May. However, I don’t trust the gov. any further than I could throw it. If I travel to Mexico or Canada, you can bet you bass, even with my DL, I’m also bringing my passport, lol. It’s my only handheld proof that I am a US Citizen besides my birth certificate as I was born on a U.S. military base overseas, lol. Mine is close to expiring too. Also, if I am not mistaken I think the cost is the same whether you renew your passport expired or not. Weird story. I was flying back to the US from Korea on a 747. There were two lines. One for citizens and the other non citizens. Some buffoon was “directing” people (as if the travelers couldn’t tell what line to go to. So I make my way to the citizen line and as I do, he notices that, looks and points at me and then points to the non citizen line but I continue in the citizens line. He then comes up to me and says it without saying it, probably thinking I didn’t speak English, “This line.” By this time he’s right in front of me so I stop, bust out my blue passport and said to him, “This means I go in this line, right? a$$ wipe,” no I didn’t say the last word but I was getting upset. Well, the shock ticked him off and he pulled me aside and they made me open my luggage. Of course I complied since I had nothing to hide. In retrospect, it sent me to the very front and I got out faster than usual. This was in the 1990s. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 14, 2023 Super User Posted January 14, 2023 Never had a passport - only times I've been out of the country 1979 - drove into Canada with a bunch of other college astronomy geeks to watch the Solar Eclipse in Winnipeg...all we needed was our licenses back then. 1982 - while in the AF - took a MAC flight to Ramstein and spent a weekend in Kaiserslautern (my high-school German was enough to get me through). As an active duty airman - my ID was enough. 1990 - Wife's and my honeymoon. 1 week Carnival Cruise out of LA - stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo san Lucus...just our IDs needed cause of the cruise line. BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 14, 2023 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 14, 2023 Hmmm, you got me thinking I need to check mine. It's probably close to renewal time, although I've only used it a few times. You might be surprised to know you need it to register international domain names. I have the enhanced DL too. ....and TSA Pre ...and Clear And boy howdy do I ever get through lines fast! Quote

However, should you allow it to expire, you will need to produce all that citizenship documentation you initially did the first time to acquire a new one. The enhance drivers license requires the same documentation as a passport. 1 1 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted January 19, 2023 Super User Posted January 19, 2023 Remember: Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met. Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted January 19, 2023 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2023 you all tapped into my paranoid side. I called the lady that helped me with my PP renewal. she said that they are asked to tell everyone 8-9 weeks for a renewal. with the $60 added expedite fee that drops the timeline to 5 weeks. she then said that they are much faster now. my coworker just got his in 8 weeks. she said my Oct trip is well within the comfort zone of everyone in her office. she said, "no problems" Quote

It's right in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. For a pro sports venue, that is a one of a kind. I took a $10 tour there in early August a few years ago and then ate at Curly's Pub afterwards. Just the bronze statues outside and the history of the team/NFL in general there is worth seeing. 1 Quote
