Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 12, 2023 Super User Posted January 12, 2023 I’ve caught several turtles, but the weirdest was a pair of pink panties. About XXXXL in size. Absolutely no pics of those! 2 3 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I’ve caught a bunch of random things over the years. About the biggest though was some idiot with a fly rod. Tossing a big streamer fly and a huge side wind gusted on the back cast, and sunk that hook right to the barb, dead centre in the nose! Bad words were said! Oh yeah, that idiot was myself. 2 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted January 13, 2023 Super User Posted January 13, 2023 Caught a Natty Light on a jerkbait. I caught a dead loon, a push broom, an ultralight panfish rod that I have caught literally thousands of panfish with. My dad reeled in a 1 legged pelican. 1 1 Quote
Woody B Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 I caught a Christmas tree top with a brick tied to it in 35 feet of water with a jigging spoon. It was heavy, and hard to pull up. I knew it wasn't a fish or anything alive. I was afraid it was a human body. I had just read a new article a few days earlier about a fisherman catching a corpse. 2 Quote

Weather it's an invasive species, a tree-pounder or even a rare catch, I would love to see it! So far mine is this kids rod and reel, I snaged onto a line and decided to bring in what I could before it snapped. Turns out it was still attached to the rod! @slonezp will be wanting that back 1 Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 13, 2023 Super User Posted January 13, 2023 I hooked a beaver. I hated hooking that guy, but luckily I was jig fishing, so there was only one hook. I also caught a crawdad that someone has tied to a partial cinder block. Being a Night Basser, these things will ruin whole sections of the lake trying to scare you away with tail slaps, not to mention it startles you. Super User WRB Posted January 13, 2023 Super User Posted January 13, 2023 Wildest or weirdest, title vs opening post. Wildest hands down For was a big Mako shark that jump over our flying on 52’ Pacifica Sportfisher marling fishing that we were fighting. Weirdest there are a few that come to mind. Bass fishing Bull Shoals a limb was being pulled into the water and being from California didn’t know about limb lines. curious checked it out and pulled in the line with a big snapping turtle hooked. Thought I would knock the hook out of it’s mouth using the rent boat oar, bad decision the. Turtle clamp down on the oars end wouldn’t let go. Tied the to the anchor rope, cut the limb line and left the turtle clamped on the oar and continued fishing thinking the turtle would release the oar and swim off. When it was time to return to. The boat dock the dam turtle was still clamped to the oar. I tied the anchor rope to the turtles big tail and pulled the turtle into the boat using the oar. Now this big is in the boat tail tied to the bow with the oar as returned to the boat landing. Now the story gets weirder. As I left the big turtle out of the boat onto the dock with the rope tied to it’s tail and still clamped onto the oar I see this man standing watching. He ask me do I want the turtle and say no. The next thing that happens as I pull on the oar the guy chops the turtles head off and almost fall off the dock. When I go the the office to pay for the rental boat the same man tells me it’s free and invites me to a turtle dinner. Tom 1 6 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted January 13, 2023 Super User Posted January 13, 2023 To this day I still don't now how I managed to hook this little guy. First off, it was t-rigged (obviously the hook popped out at some point). I was pitching docks, working the bait slowly. So it's not like I was stroking it or anything. Also, this isn't some super sharp, light wire hook either. This little guy was so tiny and light, I just don't know how I managed to pierce it considering all those factors. 4 1 Quote

VolFan Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 I caught a rainbow in 4 Mile Run (a trib of the Potomac) in July. It’s just north of Alexandria, just south of DC. Runs right by Reagan airport. It’s a hot cesspool of an urban stream but it was a gorgeous healthy 16” rainbow. Quote
Super User Swamp Girl Posted January 14, 2023 Super User Posted January 14, 2023 I caught a largemouth bass with with an oar. I was rowing through some riffles and my oar flipped a bass out of the water and onto my sister. She wasn't happy, but I was. 1 1 3 Quote

When I go the the office to pay for the rental boat the same man tells me it’s free and invites me to a turtle dinner. Tom I use to hang a local gun shop. One of the other guys who hung there was a doctor and a gourmet cook. He said he would make snapper soup for all of us if someone would bring him a snapper. I fished for carp in a local state park pond. I often had snappers take my cornmeal and I'd drag them up on the shore and cut the line. It was decided I'd supply Doc with a snapper. I hit the pond a few days later and toss out my cornmeal. In a few minutes, I have a big snapper on. This was going to be easy! I get my machete ready and start pulling the turtle toward shore. I get him up on shore and pull on the line with my left hand to get the neck out and as I'm getting ready to swing the machete I hear a bunch of young voices right behind me. I turn to find about 10 or 12 Cub Scouts who came over to see what I caught. I look at the kids and the turtle and decided the turtle was getting a reprieve. I cut the line rather than the turtle's neck and the turtle retreated back into the pond. The Cub Scouts thought it was great. I didn't catch another turtle or carp that day. 1 2 Quote
